The current system or close to it.

I started with Altec Valencias and still have them. Although now I listen to the 846B models as the cabinets on the A's are beyond redemption. Too many moves and ladies with flowers or candles have taken their toll. I do prefer the sound of the A's better but I'm done spending money on a system as my hearing has dropped off sharply after I hit 75.

The system consists of Altec Valencias on 8" risers I built. This puts the horns right at ear level sitting down. ART active crossover, with a MC-2205 on the woofers and MC-2125 on the horns. C-100 preamplifier, MCD-205 CD changer, MR-77 tuner, and two Mitsubishi TT's. a LT-30 and a LT-5-V. Both have Shure V-15-5-mr cartridges. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'm no tech so bear that in mind. :) As you can tell the room has a nautical theme of sorts. I've been happy with this sound for quite a few years now. I switch out the MC-2125 for a MC-275 in Winter months which makes the horns sparkle and female vocals to melt your heart.

Since not too many have seen/heard a LT-5-V, I included a picture of it. Several years ago when I still had good hearing I did an A/B using the same carts on both and each playing the same record simultaneously I couldn't hear any difference in SQ.

Thank you for the compliment. The room is my garage. :) My house is very small so in order not to have to sit on the speakers I have it setup in the garage and converted it to a quasi listening room.

Hey Mike, it’s nice to see you posting here again. Yours has always been one of my favorite vintage Mac setups. Classic!

Beautiful setup! Out of curiosity, how do you limit the output signal frequencies to the drivers?

I didn't know you had an LT-5v... I've always wanted one of those. Cheers from another LT-30 owner! (listening to it right now)

I use a A.R.T. CX 311 electronic crossover. I can change crossover frequencies on the fly which I like a lot. There are more expensive options out there but this works for me.

Hi Mike, nice to hear from you!

I think you've had those Altecs even longer than I have had mine - sometimes things are just right for you and you're done. :)

Bill, I got my first pair of A's in 1967. They just seem musical to me. Since I'm done buying gear I probably wont get another pair of A's and sell the B's in the picture.
