The rules of the Emporium.

1. HiFi Haven is not involved in your deal, any more than a newspaper is, in a classified ad. HiFi Haven makes no warranties of any kind, and payment of any taxes that might be owed to any government entity is the responsibility of buyer and/or seller, and never of HiFi Haven.

2. When offering PayPal as a form of payment, HiFi Haven does not condone the use of the "Friends & Family" option to avoid paying PayPal its rightful service charge. Remember that buyer protection is NOT provided by PayPal when using the "Friends & Family" payment service.

3. The sale of firearms, or any other items or substances that are in any way regulated, is strictly prohibited. If it's illegal to sell it in any state/jurisdiction, or federally, it's illegal to sell it here. This includes parts of firearms, anything explosive, ammunition, illegal substances, pornography, active stocks, crypto-currency, bullion, collectable coins, foreign currency, live animals, etc.

4. All Items posted on and/or after 7/3/2021 must include an asking price.

5. Please update the status of your Item upon a conclusion of the sale. Please mark it as SOLD, COMPLETED, or OFF.

6. Any member may post in existing Emporium ad threads. However, the ability to post new ads (buy, sell, or trade) in the Emporium is strictly limited to active members of the HiFi Haven community. To obtain the privilege of posting new ads in the Emporium, a member must have at least 25 posts in other HiFi Haven areas. Any attempt to "game" the posting requirements (for example, by posting one word answers, only using smilies, etc.) will lead to the revocation of the offending member's posting privileges at the HiFi Haven. We can tell the difference between people posting out of interest in the discussions of the community, versus just trying to do the least possible to obtain the ability to post new Emporium ads.

By posting to this forum, you agree to be bound by these rules and conditions.

Question: does one have to list a price in the posting or can “upon request” be used? No I’m not looking to create an auction environ, but some things may be better in a PM with a few items I have.

personal preference is to have price listed. then one can determine if the item is in their price range without having to engage in PMs. and the suspicion that if the price is not listed that there is a reason for it = its too high.

Is there a way to rate buyers/sellers after transactions? It would show in their signature somehow or drop-down click option. Not looking to add more work to anyone but maybe a set and forget website feature of sorts?
There are members who are active and one is comfortable with, but one can see the trepidation when dealing with another member for the very first time (going in blindly if you will).

my take on this is that members of HFH should be as trustworthy as there is - perhaps not perfect, but as good as it gets. adding feedback could itself cause grounds for friction. is anyone aware of HFH transactions gone bad? if so, lets address. if not, lets not try to solve a problem that does not exist. just my. thoughts spur of this moment.

I’ve not had any bad transactions and am a trustworthy person, but not everyone knows me and vice versa. Maybe it’s a non issue. 🤷‍♂️

It's a challenging thing, and something we have been mulling over. Some members have suggested that we do a higher base threshold of posts before you are allowed to post a for sale ad. Hoffman sets it at 50 before you can even see their big and sell forums.
Others gave suggested that posting Emporium fir sale ads only be open to site supporters. But that can cause some issues too.
A feedback forum has been mentioned also.

As always, we are very open to members feedback.

I pretty much agree with Erik and Dave on some sort of track record. So far we seem to have avoid the opportunists who see this forum solely as a commercial opportunity, but I have seen these FS lists polluted by that ilk in other forums and more recently by individuals over on FB.

I guess it's all part and parcel of the online world we live in.

I think setting a slightly higher threshold before you can start selling items might help discourage any 'fly-by-night' sellers (note: before one of the resident Canadians on HFH pillory me, I am not suggesting we discourage the sale of Rush's second studio album) who might only be interested in using HFH to move gear.

That being said, I am a Post Whore in Training, so I'm probably the last person who should be talking about post thresholds.

I think a highish threshold for posts helps folks fro just using the joint for just using the forum to sell stuff.
Opening it to site supporters is a good idea to me.
are people really doing this? its such a small market segment compared to agon, usam, ebay, fbook mktplace etc.

Seems I've seen folks with no prior posts list something sale and then never contribute another word. Not technically a foul but seems unhavenlike.
Similarly, some come to ask for help with their first post abd don't remain. Don't even post whether the help worked. Again - not against any rules but rude behavior IMHO.

I wouldn't mind having a specific place where we could leave shout outs to all the folks with whom we've had pleasant, positive transactions, past and present. An index of trustworthy dudes, if you will. Which is not to say I really think we need it here-- at least not based on my experience. Just a thought, folks.
