The SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank on November 10, 1975, in Lake Superior during a massive storm, resulting in the deaths of all 29 crew members.

So yes, I was sailing 50 years ago this evening. And that night was the only time I was ever scared on the lakes.


Fortunately, our Captain, James Brent, thought it might be a good idea to anchor in Thunder Bay, Ontario, instead of crossing Lake Superior.


TBS, I was 18. When I entered the galley the morning after, and when told that the Fitz went down with 29 lost at sea, I said, "Sausage, two eggs, hashbrowns, and whole wheat toast, please."
