The string education program I've started.

I hope that this post doesn't break any rules. I thought of putting it in the Emporium, but it just doesn't look like the right "fit", either. If anyone happens to know of any smaller-sized violins running about with nothing to do, I'm looking for them.

Under the auspices of The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Windsor Essex County and with support from The Friends of the Court at Mackenzie Hall I have started a one-year pilot project for a string program for disadvantaged children in the area of Sandwich. We are two weeks in and things are going very well, better than I could possibly have anticipated. We are hoping that this project can become long-term and continue on a permanent basis. It has long disturbed me that Windsor has so many fine programs like WCCA and WSYO for children to participate in, yet they are "by audition" and those who cannot afford private lessons cannot hope to reach the required standard. The program is intended to open that accessibility as well as promote the arts in general.

One issue I am dealing with is that we now have more applicants than we have violins available, particularly in terms of 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 size violins. I am posting this email in the hope that there might be a few violins hiding in closets or under beds that would like to get out and make music once more! I am hoping for instruments to be donated if possible, but on loan would also be wonderful and we do have a small budget for purchases.

If the possibility of assisting with this appeals to you we would be deeply grateful!

I can't assist with this badly-needed program, other than to suggest surveying local pawn shops for candidate instruments.
