Today's Classical Music Playlist

Christmas is just around the corner. My wife and I are making plans to attend the Joffrey Ballet Nutcracker performance in our “new” hometown, Chicago. We used to attend almost every year, with our daughters, when we lived here for 15 years. It’s good to be back home.

What’s your favorite recording of the Nutcracker on vinyl?

Not just one! Complete ballet: Dorati/London Symphony O, Dorati/Concertgebouw O, Ansermet/Suisse Romande O and Rozhdestvensky/Bolshoi Theatre O. (Those are my absolute favourites, but among the more "recent" ones, not on LP but on CD I'd go with Ozawa/Boston SO and Gergiev/Kirov O, but this is not what you asked!). As for the suites, I'd pick Toscanini/NBC, Reiner/Chicago SO, Mravinsky/Leningrad SO (I'm not sure that this one is available on LP, though) and Fistoulari/Paris Conservatoire O.
