Triangle Borea bro3 vs. Elac UniFi 2.0 vs. Elac UniFi Reference vs All

I want some new speakers and am looking hard at the above. The Elac UniFi Reference is getting released at the end of June and looks promising at 1k. The other two seem to be a bargain at $600. The BRO3's are intriguing to me after reading and watching lengthy reviews. I want to match the new speakers with my Schiit Vidar/Freya Plus amp and preamp. I like the idea of the ability to return them if not to my satisfaction. Is anyone familiar with these and can provide me input? Suggestions?

What’s your max budget and what kind of music are you into? Would you be okay with floor standing speakers as well?

Maybe on the floor standers depending on what. Budget is upwards of 2k or more, but I have self imposed limits. In other words, I am a cheap ass audiophile ;). I listen to a lot of different types of music; Jazz, rock, alternative, techno, country, hip hop etc. My best speakers are ProAc Tablette 10's that are doing duty in the bedroom system. I need something for an 18x15 sized room.

Ok, I have revived myself from my momentary "budget speaker madness". I am now looking at the up to 2k range new or used.

This is what I'd buy. Electron SE - Tekton Design

Based on the reports from my friend who heard these, I have full confidence in this suggestion. My friend who has much higher standards than myself was blown away with these when he went to hear them and immediately ordered himself a pair. I know, a little above your budget, but figured I'd throw it out there.

If you're looking for a bookshelf speaker I think the best one that I can think of in that price range is the Jean Marie Reynaud Bliss Jubilee. I purchased mine for $2500 shipped but you might be able to haggle the price a little.

Edit: I did have a pair of these and when we went into the pandemic I moved my entire office setup to the house. These sat unused and I couldn't stand it. I ended up selling them which was one of the few blunders of mine in audio. They are without a doubt a true endgame speaker. They did everything right from top to bottom. There is hardly any information out there state-side about them but there are a few dealers. I think what made these speakers so special is that the guys at JMR are musicians themselves, and what better way to voice a speaker than to actually have real musicians with an ear of how instruments sound to design for what they know. Another plus is that they're front ported so a bit easier to place in rooms, IMO.

I would easily buy these again if I had the room.

All of the above look promising, especially the Jean Reynaud and Dali's. I am sure those Tektons sound great but they look BIG. I did find a couple of other interesting prospects; a pair of used Ascend Acoustics Sierra 2's and a pair of used Silverline Minuet Grands in like new condition.

I wonder if you'd find that 5.25" woofer on the Silverlines to be enough in that sized room.

I can vouch for the Sierra Acoustics with my Ones. The same YouTube channel reviewed the Sierra 2 and the 2ex

Very good point Steven. I was thinking the exact same thing and will probably pass on those even though it is a good price on the used pair. There is a reason that all of my small speakers; ProAc, SuperZero 2.1 and my Dennis Murphy modded Pioneers all sound so much better in the bedroom system. I need scale in that larger space.

Have you looked at the Fritz models. All use high quality drivers with simple series crossovers. Most extend into the mid-30's with ease and are an easy load. Fritz will even let you try them at home. Worth giving him a call as he loves to talk.

The Fritz line looks pretty nice which brings up another point. I like speakers that are easy to drive. The Fritz and Jubilee Bliss fit that need.

I see you've moved beyond the prospect of grabbing the Triangles, but for the record I tried BRO3's in a 16x20x8 space, fully treated with absorption and diffusion, and though they sound about as big as I've ever heard a speaker that size sound (and damn nice), they still couldn't take command of the space. The BRO8 probably could, but you're eyeing stuff now that I would imagine is a notch or two above that model.

You are absolutely correct. I am currently looking at floor standers. Now it has become an even more difficult quest.

Now that I am in the floor stander category, I no longer feel comfortable ordering a large speaker that I haven't had the opportunity to audition. Sending the big boys back is way harder than a pair of small speakers. Do you have any suggestions?

KLH Model 5? Haven’t heard them but they seem to get good reviews.

I’m not much help in the floor standing department.
