Unity Audio Cancer Fighter Speaker Cable Reviews

I thought I would start a new thread for the reviews of the speaker cables as they make their way around. I received the cables from Omer last Monday. He calls them the Cancer Fighter cables as some of the proceeds from their sale will be donated to cancer research in honor of his own victorious fight against the dread disease. Thanks Omer, we all support your efforts.

When they arrived, being the impatient kind of guy that I am, I hooked them up and gave a listen. They sounded good but were a little closed in. Sound stage was not as full as I was use to but I figured a little break in would do them good. I took them off my system and hooked them up in the garage and played a cd on repeat for a couple of days. I re-installed them in my system and wow, what a difference. Sound stage was very broad and deep. tonality was even and smooth. As I listened over the next couple of days, I could tell they were settling in even more. Last weekend I didn't get to listen much because of some time commitments but the first couple of evenings this week, I sat down and did some serious listening.

My initial impressions after a little break in were right on. Bass was full and deep but not boomy, midrange was excellent, high's were nice but didn't have quite the air that my silver coated DH Labs have. Regardless, they were still well balanced with the mids and lows.
I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to recommend them to someone looking for a high quality, reasonably priced speaker cable. The quality of construction is excellent and the are a nice looking product. The are also fairly flexible for a solid core product which is always good.

My system consist of a Thorens TD-160 with an SME M2-9 tonearm, Soundsmith Aida Cartridge, BAT VK-P5 phono stage, VK-3i line stage and VK-200 power amp driving Yamaha NS-1000m speakers. My cables are Morrow PH-3 phono cable, Neotech NEI-3002 Balanced interconnect, DH-Labs BL-1 balanced interconnect and a double run of DH-Labs T-14 speaker cable.

Music used for evaluation was Rickie Lee Jones, "Girl at Her Volcano", Dire Straits "On Every Street", Joni Mitchell, "Blue", Hall & Oates, "Abandoned Luncheonette" and Steely Dan, "Gaucho"

They are off to @MikeT for a listen, you should be getting them via Fedex soon Mike.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the review @Try1256 ! These are not a solid core cable, but rather a stranded one with a VERY high strand count.
Cable is actually made right here in Canada as well, Trenton Ontario to be exact.

Well, I guess you can tell I didn’t take them apart. LOL. With the others being called “Solid Link”, I guess I assumed they were solid core. They are fine cables regardless.

Many thanks to Unity Audio and Omer @cableguy for the opportunity to give a listen to these fine cables.

Listened for a while this morning and now have swapped back to my own cables (EWA LS25, Colin Wonfor’s answer to best his own Tellurium Q Black Ultra) for reference. I now have @ three listening sessions under my belt.

Consistently good performance, particularly with top-to-bottom imaging, outdoing my reference. Very solid bass, maybe “punchier” than what I’m used to but tight nonetheless. Vocals are very good with virtually no difference when listening to Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen on Aja. Female vocals were equally good using Diana Krall’s Live in Paris.

Subtle detail through my reference cables were slightly better. Left to right soundstage, a toss-up, very good! Front to back soundstage edge I have to give to Colin’s cables. I like subtle piano detail with my reference on Brad Mehldau Trio, Blues and Ballads, but Unity is no slouch for sure.

Construction is very good, maybe a little stiff but no problems with installation.

Tim tagged one end of the cables with blue tape as the speaker end for reference. I continued using that connection methodology but I don’t believe there is any directionality specified by Unity Audio.

Solid performance in my system and kudos to Omer for their performance, price point and the charitable giving. Recommended! I’ll get ‘em packed up and onto their next destination.

Thanks again Omer!! Well done.

I want to thank Unity Audio/@cableguy for letting us try the cables. These are very nice looking cables and well constructed. I need to disclose a few things that might have effected the SQ. The only amp I have working at the moment is a Marantz 2230. This required me to use the banana adapters for the cables. I don't like extra connections but, that was the only way.

I finally had some time to listen. This is the first commercial cable product I've ever used. All my stuff is homebrew DIY.
I found the cables to be well balanced, with good staging. Overall I found them to be on par with my own cables. The only difference was the staging changed. My cables seemed to have a more forward mid range and the Unity cables more evenly spaced.

Recordings used were LP's. Willie Nelson/Stardust, CCR/Chronicle, Neil Young/Massey Hall.

@TubeHiFiNut is next on the list. I'm sending them out today. :) Thanks again Omer!

Thank you @opa1 :)

Looking forward to hearing them. :)

Thanks for the feedback @opa1 ! It's always interesting to see the synergy that components and cables have in different system configurations.

@cableguy - Omer, Thank you for not only the opportunity to review the Unity Audio Cancer Fighter Speaker Cables but for also donating a portion of the proceeds to help fight cancer. My Mother was a breast cancer survivor and colon cancer took my Father.

Thoughts and prayers sent for your continued clean bill of health.

First up, Living Room System:
  • Sonos Connect (with Sonos Boost)
  • Schiit Modi Uber
  • NFJ&FX Audio TPA3250
  • Mission MS-50 speakers
  • B&W CDM1 speakers
  • Canare Digital cable, Star Quad Interconnects and 4S11 speaker cable
Listening first to the Mission MS-50:
Music included:
Falla - "Nights in the Gardens of Spain", Ansermet on Decca
Rimsky-Korsakov "Scheherezade", Reiner, CSO, RCA
John Coltrane "My Favorite Things"
Aaron Espy's "All Things New"
Accoustic Alchemy "Mr. Chow"
Eagles "Desperado"
The Beatles "Abbey Road"
The Modern Jazz Quartet "The Last Concert"
Pink Floyd "Animals"
Plus a variety of other Jazz, Classical, Rock and Blues selections.

The Unity Audio Solid Cancer Fighter Speaker Cables are slightly more expensive than the Canare 4S11 cables for a 6' pair.

I've always considered the 4S11 to be a good "utility infielder" - doesn't do a whole lot wrong, sins of omission, decent bottom to top balance, etc.

To my ears on the MS50 speakered living room system, the two cables sound similar but the Unity Audio Cancer Fighter Speaker Cables bettered the Canare 4S11 in every respect:

* Low end is more "tuneful" (we'll leave the deep bass comparisons for the Man Cave System).
* Really nice balance.
* Fewer "sins of omission". More overall transparency.
* A notch up on the "fun factor" scale.

I'll be hooking up the B&W CDM1 in the AM to see how they sound and will report back with Part 2.

So far, so good. :)

@cableguy - Omer, please clarify one thing, please.

What is the difference between the Unity Audio Solid Link V2 and the Unity Audio Cancer Fighter?

I'm a bit confused by the pricing, the Solid Link V2 looks like it's priced at $110/pr and the Cancer Fighter at $180/pr?

Part 2.....

The Australian Shepherds and I have been relaxing and listening to the Unity Audio cables on the B&W CDM1 speakers today (between "Honey-Do's" ;) ).

Some general observations.....

Similar improvements as noted on the Missions. The Unity Audio cables seem clearer and more tightly focused than the Canare.

Couldn't really push things as the little TPA3250 amp starts to run out of gas on the B&Ws.

Have I mentioned lately how much fun the Mission MS50 speakers are? ;)

Anyway, confirmed that the Unity Audio cables exhibit the same sonic character on both the Missions and B&Ws so now I'll hook up the Missions again (with the Canare) and take the Unity Audio cables into the Man Cave to see how they perform on a SE/HE system.

More to follow. :)

The Solid Link v2 use a number of solid copper conductors, whereas the Cancer Fighter is a stranded design. They can also be configured as a biwire, which the Solid Link v2 cannot be. The Solid Link v2 and the Cancer Fighter are 2 distinct products.
