I recall you've also looked at the Lencos. What's your opinion these days about the Lencos vs. the 301 or 401, assuming that you've added a better arm to the mix.
IME, the Lenco was the easiest to restore (clean/adjust/lubricate + good idler wheel) to run quietly which is a tribute to its design and engineering. However, it also didn't have the micro/macro dynamics and depth of the G301/401 and TD124. Even if a Rek O Kut (L34/37 or B12GH/H) isn't as refined, it has more of that nice musical drive and energy. A well adjusted stock Lenco reminds me of the virtues of my belt drive Merrill modified/AR + speed stability of my Sony TTS 2500 direct drive. Maybe this is the reason why the Lenco enthusiasts rebuild it from the ground up? PTP chassis, new bearing, etc. but I never went that far.

YMMV, just recounting my experience.

Thanks for these comments. Recently I’ve been toying with a Lenco project...but it sounds like I should just enjoy my 401 and buy more records.

There is also a 401 on US audiomart and a TD 124 on Craigslist here locally in the Portland area. If you want the listing for the TD 124, lemme know and I'll post the link here.

401 on Ebay.
The one in Japan? Once I clicked on that one, a link for a Great Britain one showed up.
Seeing what the prices for 301’s are, I’ll likely revise this thread yet again to 401’s... especially when reading that the 401 is much improved over the 301.

I’ve been eyeing that one on us audio.. too, not sure about the plinth and there’s some cosmetic blemishes on the lower front left side.
I was actually first seeking out a td124, but have pivoted to a garrard. I’m also considering more heavily a SP10 MKii.

How about “Wanted TOTL transcription turntable from Garrard, Thorens, Technics, or Lenco roughly in that order, plus a golden goose”?

And if not, I think I know the topic of my next thread... 🤓
