What are you listening to right now ?

OK catching up a bit. 8 today and yesterday. "In London" is on the plate right now. Ringo coming up on the drums.

That Midnight Believer is from a 1/2 speed cut master from original analog tapes by Direct - Disk Labs in Nashville. The jazz-funk band The Crusaders with Joe Sample originally recorded it with B.B. in 1978. The Super Disk version was released in 1980-2. For listening to B.B.'s single string pickin' style and vocals, it's so crisp and clean against the jazz-funk behind it. Not to mention killer cover art.20260508_154506.webp

Apparently my vinyl copy went on walk-about and must now be replaced because I was particularly fond of the interior art work, as below.

This is The Black Ace, otherwise Buck Turner, Babe Turner, R. K. Turner, and by his testimony actually named Babe Karo Lemon Turner. A flat Hawaiian steel slide blues player using a glass medicine bottle slide on his National steel bodied Hawaiian style square necked guitar. A 1960 recording date by Chris Strachwitz. So glad that guy was getting out there while a lot of old bluesmen and women could still be coaxed out of retirement or their day jobs to record these. This is a 2nd pressing '62 to '64. All the original 1961 pressing content and no extra songs. Label condition after 60+ years is remarkable. Sound quality is essentially as originally issued. I've owned and played it for about 5 years. 20260510_110908.webp20260510_101403.webp
