What's in your glass?

I would really like to know why some DIPA's taste like someone had dumped a shot of Everclear into an IPA and some taste so smooth and light one would hardly think it is any stronger than a Pale Ale.

Bell's Double Two Hearted is 11% and yet there is no sense that it is a strong beer.

Good question. I generally despise IPAs, but I like the regular Bells Two Hearted Ale. It’s not bitter to my taste and has a nice balance between the hop and the malt tastes.

2009 Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine Style Ale

A little dusty but quite nice after 12 years in the dungon.

The Details

From the brewery’s private library. Extended aging of Bigfoot refines some of the barleywine’s notoriously bold character. Famous for its aggressive hoppiness, vintage Bigfoot gains more subtlety over time. As the hops fade to the background, the robust malts take over and notes of brandied cherries, dates, cocoa, leaf tobacco and caramel come to the fore. Over time, Bigfoot becomes less of a beast and more of a beauty, suitable for serving as an after-dinner drink in your favorite cordial glass or snifter.

I almost didn't "like" this because, well, IPA. But since you are in Bellaire I had to "like" it.

Actually in Elk Rapids on the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay.

I believe we will hit their place in Bellaire in a couple of days. I want to kayak in the Grass Lake Area.
