when listening to music loud, do parts of a song ever scare/startle you?

WARNING: If you dont have a powerful system, proceed with caution.

This probably happens mostly the first time you hear a song, but not necessarily. I just got a new amp and had the volume turned up.

I saw the Kodo drummers around 96 at the Wiltern Theater in L.A. If you ever get the chance, I strongly recommend it. They play a wide range of sizes of mostly drums and it is quite the sonic experience.

The “picture” below has description of song 7 - Pulsar (just picked up this cd). LISTEN TO THE SONG BEFORE READING DESCRIPTION.

If you know of songs that have parts that can scare or startle people when turned up, please post links.

I should probably say “proceed with caution”. If you have a powerful system this should not be a problem. Otherwise dont turn it too loud first time around.

This is a great CD to “test your system”!

Paragraph 3 has listening instructions. Nicely done, Sony. I suspect more recent Kodo recordings (this is from 1994) would sound even more amazing. Maybe someone here has some.

The FrankenKlipsch are definitely capable of making folks jump when they reproduce music that is percussive and transitions suddenly from soft to very loud. :)

And that's with the 2A3 amp at 3 watts/channel. ;)

I will have to hunt this CD down.

My eight-year-old was sitting by the HiFi the other day, so I quietly clicked 'play' and introduced him to the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. That first whack of Wouldn't It Be Nice startled him pretty good. He already likes the big Wall of Sound stuff, so once the music settled in, I think he enjoyed it.

The first time I cranked up the 604's for my dad, after having them reconed and mated with brand new GPA xovers many years ago. I asked him to bring over his copy of the Telarc digital record of Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture, a mutual favorite of ours.

That first set of canon fire scared the shit out of us both, and the stylus jumped out of the record's groove. When I saw the excursion of the LF cones, I thought they were going to explode. Of course they didn't, and it was all good - after we calmed down and listened to it a second time, at a slightly reduced volume, uninterrupted.

I'll never forget it. 😬😆

In about March or so we had an audiophile get together here in St. Louis. The host has an unbelievable collection of tube gear and also walls lined with CDs. He had a few sitting on a table which he identified as party favors for attendees.

I picked up one which was Erich Kunzel Conducting the Cincinatti Pops , playing "favorite Strauss Waltzes" I got that one because it reminded me of my late sainted parents who were from Vienna. When listening this CD startled me several times. It is replete with gunfire , champagne cork pops, and other explosive events. It is also a Telarc. (I LOVE Telarcs!)

Telarc "Ein Straussfest" listing There are at least four tracks that you expect explosions. But I just stuck it in the player and had the volume up.
The CD is a gas. There is a "II" that was issued and if I see it I am going to snag it.

I'll have keep my eyes peeled for that one. Sounds like fun.

If I had looked at the track listing I am sure I would not have been startled but I jumped about five times. My sons think its hilarious.
There is also an "Ein StraussFest II" CD which I am watching for.
