Who Knew? My Crystal Glasses Are Now Considered Toxic!

Sadly, I'm getting paywalled now as well. I was going to try and quote the article for you. Maybe tomorrow. I read it the first time, and it did cite actual studies, with some actual numbers.
The Good Old NYT. I'm sure it was a good article back then.

I always find it amusing when articles take an old subject, and are published for seemingly the sole purpose of generating revenue. Hey! Read this! Click here! You're lead crystal is gonna kill you! And it works. Even though the average American is far more likely to die of heart disease because of all the Big Macs and fries they're stuffing into their mouth.

We're all victims of the fact that there's 24 hours in a day, and about 5 minutes of worthwhile news happening in any one of them.

Sadly, I get paywalled right away on that. But thanks for posting.
The NYT has a promo every once in a while, basic digital subscription for $1/week. I've had that a while now, and enjoy a number of the articles published. And I'm fascinated by real estate in other far away exotic locales, like NY.

Lithium fluoride is/ was used in ceramics. Sodium fluoride for helping prevent tooth decay. Entirely different compounds with entirely different properties and uses.

My dad got shot by another kid when he was thirteen. There's a (lead) .22 bullet lodged in his neck, to this day. Docs wouldn't operate because it is too close to his jugular, and the dentist freaks out every time it shows up on X-ray.

(I'm not sure how that relates to crystal glasses, except to say that there are ways lead could kill you a lot quicker.)

Now I can't stop thinking of all those poor souls who made beaver fur felt hats...

Nope, but I hear it tastes better that way!

I don't want to be too flippant about it. Lead's insidious stuff. Lead pipes. Lead paint. Lead bullets. Lead sinkers. Lead terminals. Lead weights... Leaded crystal. Lead goes in the body but it doesn't really leave. Best to be avoided whenever possible.
Especially those lead bullets.
