Well this isn’t how I expected the night to end up. I was playing music all day to keep running in the harbeths and cables, and when I got home about 10pm the NuPrime was in standby mode. I tried pushing the power button on the remote and on the front of the unit. Nothing. Relay would click, but it wouldn’t go “blue” and show the source and volume etc... tried power cycling with the big switch on the back. Unplugging and plugging back in. Checked the fuse, fine. Nothing. Looked on the NuPrime forum on AudioCircle and found two recent posts of other IDA-16 users having the same issue with no resolution.

Ive emailed their customer support and will await a response. Likely it’s going to have to be sent in. Ugh. Used gear, man!

So I’ve rigged up this temp system. I have this badass Innersound preamp I bought for a song from @Pat McGinty and the only non-tube power amp I have right now that accepts bananas is this Biamp Systems XA300 pro amp I can’t seem to give away. Ran the Node2i into the Innersound with SE ICs, connected the balanced outs of the preamp with some 1m Avanti XLRs to the balanced (no RCA SE inputs on the Biamp) and plugged in the new cables bananas. Actually sounds decent, but the fan on the amp is loud. I think I have a new one I bought and didn’t install. Maybe I will. Or just disconnect it. I can’t imagine it will get that hot in this use.

I should have just bought the new NAD M10.

Well. I pulled the amp and popped the top and unplugged and removed the 80mm computer type fan from the back, stuck it in the rig and clicked it back on. The fan wasn’t actually that loud... the amp has a transformer buzz/hum. It’s loud enough to be annoying. Especially if I’m just doing something like watching TV. Ugh. Why can’t anything be easy.

If it wasn’t for that buzz, this system would be totally serviceable until the NuPrime is sorted out. I can still use the amp to keep running in the speakers and cables... but it’s annoying enough it makes me not want to listen to it really.

The only other amps I have are my MC2205’s and my Inspire SEP amp. Not going to use a 7wpc tube amp on these for running in and the Mac only has OG screw binding for the speaker terminals, and they need serviced anyway... the one that’s working has a channel imbalance.

Why did my Modwright just have to sell.

You've moved so much stuff lately I am forgetting what amps you have in the litter. No higher power push pull tube mono's?

First world problems. ;)
Though I’m over the moon on flea watt amps, I still keep my SS Mcintosh integrated for situations such as this. Oh, it makes lovely music with my LS3/5A’s.

I’ve mostly been selling, so that’s thinned the options. Power amps I have are the Fairchilds, but I don’t want to take them out of my big rig. A pair of MC2205’s but they both need serviced. My Dennis Had Inspire SEP. And my Parasound ZAmp V3 I use in my office. And the biamp systems.

integrateds are just the Nuprime and my Hotrodded Marantz 1060 which is on loan to a friend to try until he buys something for himself.

I sold the Modwright, sold the AmpsAndSound.

I really want to keep this rig simple... the integrated with dac is the best solution for me. It’s so tempting to buy an amp and get it here this week... but I need to be patient.

I like having the different flavors. But that’s why I have the different rigs. I was really happy with where this was going and how it was sounding with the NuPrime. Now I’m just annoyed.

Have you tried the act of desperation with the Nuprime ? Unplug from power, depress the power button for 20 - 30 seconds, release and then try and power it up.

Woody, what is with the smaller room? Last pictures I saw of your place, it was as open as a prairie.

I just tried it. No dice. Looking like the power supply went bad. I opened a ticket with support... but I'm not super impressed with that aspect of the company yet. A guy on AudioCircle said he's had the same issue twice. Hopefully they give me an RA number and tell me where to ship it soon. Annoying.

It's my TV/Listening room. It's smaller and acoustically treated. The big room is sometimes like hanging out in a cave. It's nice to have the smaller room to cozy up in too. Here's my place's layout. Helpful if you ever break in to rob me.

It's been a lot of things since it was built in the teens. Everything from an art gallery to a creamery to storage for the old service station (now bar/restrurant) next door. It's just a commercial building. We lease out 3 commercial spaces on the ground level and I have the entire upstairs.

Understatement of the year; awesome space!
So no cranking the tunes till after 5pm? (With businesses operating below)

If it were me, I couldn’t resist trying the Fairchilds with the little Harbeths. That just seems like such a good pairing. Even if it’s not meant to be permanent, I would have to scratch that itch being they are in the same space and all.

Its crossed my mind. But they are singing so beautiful on the Onkens it don’t really want to rock the boat. The easy way to do it would be to move them out into the big room and just move the wires from Onkens to Harb’s. But the room would eat the alive. Maybe someday.

Tonight I talked with the NA distributor for NuPrime and they are being awesome. I think I’ll have that sorted in the upcoming days. But in the mean time I set the LS50W’s back up in my small room. Just so I can watch TV and stuff.
