I am looking for a pair of speakers for my wife's stereo. Its really my stereo, too, but its in the place my wife spends most of her time.

And this quest includes some odd parameters.

They must be white. Now, here at Chateau JohnVF we are not against speakers of all shapes, colors, and sizes, but in this case we need white speakers. Preferably ALL white. Grilles and all. Or removable grilles with white baffles. The drivers can be whatever shade of whatever they may be.

Sound quality is important but secondary to the above. I have a main setup and this isn't it. This is about good sound but more about a specific look. Which is, monochromatic, all white.

The speakers must fit on top of Bose 901 tulip stands. The top of which is apx 9". By fit I mean the edges of the top shouldn't stick out the sides, so the bottom should be 9" square at least.

Beyond those weird guardrails and a budget of hopefully below $1000, I'm open to whatever.

Some thoughts I've had:

Canton:

16884

A/D/S L-400 (not sure of dimensions, I have smaller white A/D/S and don't love them but maybe the bigger ones are more lively?)

16885

SVS Ultra (currently maybe the lead horse for potential sound quality reasons).

16886

Not sure what else? Any ideas welcome!

Are KEF LS-50s in white too small for the stands? (Looking at the dims, looks like they might be a smidge too small.)

Yeah, I wish those would work as I like the blue woofers and they're nice speakers. But I had my black LS-50s on these same stands and the speakers were too small for them, they looked silly.

Would you consider active speakers? The new Kanto TUK look really intriguing to me. I believe 799 US with AMT tweeter, loads of connections and to me very attractive. Haven't heard them as they are brand new on the market.

I had a pair of Yamaha HS-7 active monitors that would have worked great (except that they didn't sound good past the near-field). As it is, I'm trying to keep this to passive as I really like the Accuphase E-303x that is a part of this system. It kind of adds to the period-piece charm of it all.

Monitor Audio Silver Series 2 or Silver 100 come in right around your budget.
Monitor Audio Bronze 2 about half your budget.
FWIW

Wharfedale Diamond 11.2 specs at 9.2" W, but has curved sides, so it might not fit.
Those look like a great option, thanks Ernie. The tops of the stands are 8.75" in diameter, round.

The Cantons and A/D/S-Braun would look better but sound quality wise? I've never loved A/D/S. I had a cheap pair of Cantons once, they were ok but hard to judge the whole lineup by one pair. I've heard multiple pairs of A/D/S and haven't loved any of them. They look the part though.

The Wharfedale's in White is in the pipeline for my daughter's stereo system. I really like the Wharfdale Diamond series as an all-around, good sounding and economical speaker. Highly recommend.

I heard the 11.1's and enjoyed them. The 11.2 are a bit larger, and go a little lower. Soft fabric dome tweeter, which I tend to prefer, so I think it will beat out the small ADS models rather handily.
YMMV

Heresy IIIs and a rattle-can? :D

Whoops, missed the 9x9" footprint. Never mind.
I have thought about painting something if I find something that would work.

The stands are currently black, but I'm going to paint them white.

Oh, another speaker I thought of is white NHT SuperOnes, but only because I like the look. I had black ones for years and found them to be mediocre at best, but I'd have more power behind them this time around.

Sometimes it is fun to play detective and take up the challenge - but now all my ads are for speakers. doh! Couldn't find anything that wasn't shaped like a box. Those old 901's are certainly cool looking.

Box shaped is ok, though I'm looking for something that's either visually interesting or visually just super-basic/minimal (and white).

it's in a cool room (at least I think so). All primary colors. The stereo cabinet is white as is the wall behind it and blinds.
