Your mission, should you choose to, well, care or know some options....

Whelp, I made a purchase after running the options by my wife, who'll be spending most of the time with the speakers. Directly related to a pair of speakers I used to have and love....

Also I broke the 'must be white' pledge, but the shape and overall MCM vibe, despite them not being from the mid century, more than makes up for it.

Tease!

New look, same great taste!

(I remember how much you liked your M7s.)
Selling them was just a dumb idea, I still miss them, and have had so many places to use them since. They're not as good as the Harbeths (which is why I sold them) and they could be boomy in the wrong room...but otherwise they were so good. They're so much better than the Signet speakers I'm using in my theater room.

nice! got the "looks" covered. looking fwd to your report on the sound.
I'm hoping they sound like my SS-m7s with just a bit less bass. We'll see! (or...hear). Seems like they've shipped. A bit nervous about the shipping but fingers crossed.

well played! :grandpa:
The SS-m7 were truly wonderful speakers. Transformative for me, personally. I had been a vintage speaker collector of things like Advents, KLH, AR, etc and they were on Chicago CL for $200 and nobody knew what they were. I got them home and it took a bit to realize what I had...in fact, I think the next weekend I bought a pair of Dahquist DQ-10s (I was a pro-level hoarder) and it was the comparison between the two, as I'd had little time to listen to the Sony speakers, that really kind of broke me of my habits. I haven't really liked a '70s or '60s speaker since, though I did like those early '80s Cabasses you have, and an early '80s pair of Diatones that I had.

Speaking of those Cabasses...I found the grilles in the move! They're ugly but I'll have to get them over to you (I'm in Detroit right now).

I can't imagine how huge a leap above the 70's speakers the Sony's must have been . You must have given your head a good shake when you realized how good the Sonys were.

saw a pair of ss-m7s on ebay yesterday for a grand plus ship.

john: when you are in evanston some day lets meet for coffee and i'll get the grills.

These should arrive today. If not today, tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

I guess the time to get in on those was when the pair I bought sat on CL for $200 for several days. Funny, had they been JBL-100s or something they'd have been gone in a flash. And there's just no comparison.

People are funny that way - buy according to the conventional wisdom. It sure drives up the price of some junk.

That will be the title of my audio autobiography.

Or at least the first half of the book :)
I have a feeling that the audio autobiography of most of us around here would be pretty similar reading. Where the real variation would come is in the second half.

If anybody thinks I'm above holding onto a good deal of resentment over the pretended-expertise on a certain other forum, I'm not :)

They arrived!

They work!

So far so good. I think if my SS-m7s were these I'd have kept them for sure, as I sold the SS-m7s because I didn't really have room for2 main system speakers..I needed standmounts and the KEF LS-50s had arrived.

I'm running them in with the Leben, which always worked with the SS-m7s. They sound good.
