Embiggening the Altec 620. Thoughts/experiences with >9 cu ft cabs for Altec 604-8g?

I think it's a bit of an art form getting resonate cabinets to sound good across the spectrum. Shindo (Harbeth, Audio Note and a few others) are controlling the vibrations to happen in a very specific frequency range that does less harm than vibration in other "more essential" frequency ranges. The type of wood, veneer, size, and even the internal paint used in that second Shindo photograph are tools to move that vibration where the designer wants it.

Build, measure, listen, repeat... A big endeavor for the diy'er. I appreciate you brave souls doing and sharing your experience. I think the reward is pretty spectacular with the way these cabintes done right can excite and energize a room.

Guys,
always wanted to try how Altec 604/605 sounds in non rectangular enclosure. Are there really benefits of having non parallel sides?
I have soft eye on Altec Laguna (830a) enclosure. Does anybody knows it's internal volume? Looks like japanese tried put coaxial Altecs in these enclosures.

Interesting that they're running 604-8G's with Mastering Labs crossovers - that doesn't seem to be an ideal match...

I say go big or go home!

These are actually the ones I would love to try. However, straight buy from Utopia (Japan) is super expensive, and can’t figure it out internal structure. My guess, from few photos I saw in Japan clasified ad websites that it’s back loaded horns, or something similar to Tannoy GRF

Curious if anyone has any comments about Front Loading vs. Rear Loading the driver in the cabinet?
If your woofers are made to front load as the newer Altec 16" frames do, its much easier, and the cabinet doesn't need to have an access panel.
The 605s with 15" frames I were using would only mount from the back so i had to modify the MLTL design by having the front panel removable.

Btw, it’s my take on Shindo enclosure. Mint 604e inside with Werner Jagusch crossovers

Oh wow these are gorgeous! Well done! I was planning to do the same at one point with my 604-8g, but had a baby and had to step out of the game for a minute.

I'm curious - where did you land on box volume/tuning/port arrangement? Did you use the bottom firing vent and ~Shindo dimensions? From memory, the dims I had for the Shindo enclosures was something like 47"x 28"x18".

I could never find exact specs for the bottom vent in the Shindo cabinets - especially since some version of the Shindo cabs I saw had bottom port partially covered by the crossover network. Always thought it would be cool to make adjustable vents and tune to the room/placement.
