Greetings from a recent DIY convert

Hi all -

Long time member over at AK who found my way here after acquiring an orphan Altec 32c horn and 802-8g (wtb post coming soon for it's mate). @je2a3 popped in on my identification post after I mentioned his 753 would be a fun path to take, so appreciations to the man himself for his dedication to all of our audible enjoyment.

Vintage gear was my entree to the world of hifi. I went to pick up some chairs at an estate sale, they were sold already, but this fun looking receiver (Sansui 5000a) was in the corner and they sold it to me for a song. Upon realizing the gear was made in an era where restoration was encouraged, I got friendly with my local techs and down the rabbit hole I went.

Early last year, a mentor of mine encouraged me to try my hand at building something of my own. He had an extra ACA Mini board and more patience than most humans would offer. When that thing actually made music, I realized how much enjoyment I got out of the build process and decided to dive a bit deeper.

Since then, I've been working on a rebuild of a Technics SP10 mkii. We're at the 80% mark, the entire unit has been recapped and a few aesthetic components are the only items left on the to-do list. I'm excited to share the plinth design, which was a collaboration with a dear friend who happens to be an expert furniture maker.

Next up are the 753 homage, which I'm knee deep in reading through the long thread here. Thanks to all who have contributed thus far.

Looking forward to seeing y'all around here!

Welcome. You have landed in a really nice place for exchange of ideas and learning.

Welcome to the Haven. You are among kindred pep’s. Looking forward to your mkii build, I have one I need to build a base for too.

Welcome
DIY is the road I travel, nice see you on the pathway.
Looking forward to some of your projects.

I forgot to say welcome! :face2
WELCOME @ontheroad! :redface::)

PS Is that like Kerouac On the Road or Willie Nelson On the Road (Again) -- or otherwise?
PPS You don't have to answer questions like that one! ;)
Ha! Thanks for the double welcome.

It started with Kerouac, but I will tell you I've been on the hunt for Willie each time I go to the record store. Just snagged a nice copy of Phases & Stages.
