WiiM Mini and WiiM Pro: Doorway Streamer

Fwiw,
I’ve had a Wiim Pro for several months and after a recent update lost access to Pandora. I reached out to Wiim for support and they responded consistently and stayed in touch until the issue was resolved. That may not seem like a big deal but to me that’s an excellent way to promote your product.

Picked up my Pro on the Black Friday or maybe it was Amazon day for $119. I had assumed that USB DAC would be supported, but it is not on the Pro or Pro Plus. Had planned on picking up another one or two to use with some DAC's I have laying around. Was able use the one I bought using an optical input on the theater system.

I'm using as a Roon Bridge so, if Ultra offers USB DAC and or external storage through a USB port and the price point is more than a couple hundred it probably makes more sense to go Raspberry PI again.

Setup was a cinch and I am now listening to high quality music! No more being tied to a dac (cables) or being limited by apples Bluetooth.

This songs title is reflective of how I feel about this purchase! Thanks to the haven and the member who brought the Wiim to light here. :)

Is he really that clueless about streamers? That’s hard to believe somebody in the industry would not be aware of the many choices available.
He did say there are affordable streamers out there if you look around. I’d be curious how many Wiim sell in the US?

Amazon admits to 500+ monthly sales for each WiiM product, and they get a flagship banner advertisement when you search “audio streamer”.

I would speculate that WiiM device sales outpace those of all $500+ streamers combined, likely several times over.

I'd be very curious as to just what size dent WiiM have put in Bluesound's sales. Bluesound has a wide dealer distribution network, including Best Buy, and some folks still shop in dealers including online such as Crutchfield, B&H, etc... and of course Amazon. But the price delta is significant, WiiM have certainly crimped their style at a minimum.

No doubt they do, yet they don't have the sound quality of the higher-end streamers (where I'd say $1K or higher is the entry point). And I don't expect them to. They're sold to two different markets--apples and oranges, in other words. I live happily with both--one because it transforms the digital experience, and the other(s) due to the utility and surprisingly good sound quality for the price. Audio doesn't need to be either/or--we all budget for what we can afford, and what we want out of our digital experience. We're fortunate to have products at so many price points, and WiiM is killing it with their streamers IMHO--they've hit a sweet spot of utility, compatibility and sound quality at their price points.

He also doesn't have countless hours to poke through Amazon or read numerous forums. I wouldn't expect him to know as much about the lower-end streamers as I wouldn't expect a Bentley dealer to care what's happening down at the Chevy dealer, or a sushi restaurant giving a hoot about what Chick-Fil-A has on the menu. Two different markets.

Unless I missed it, WiiM was not at AXPONA. Yet they're attending Munich. Lost opportunity IMHO. In the Exhibit Hall, if they'd had a Wiim Pro Plus connected to a good headphone amp for folks to demo, and a stack of units available for sale (Pro and Pro Plus), they could have sold a crap ton of them. It's a great product for someone to start a journey in streaming, or use in a second system, without putting out a lot of cash. And being a newcomer, I hope they do shake up the "establishment" a bit.

My pro has never even hiccuped. I have a mesh wireless system so I’m sure that helps.
Mine has a minute amount of lag between choosing songs, stopping or forwarding the song a bit. But I do have it on the wifi and need to change over to hard wire.

Oh, I can’t share a song on tidal, is that an operator error?

Also, mine is a pro+ so probably not the right thread…
