Hello everyone , I'm new here. I'm writing from the UK, I love music and I've just upgraded my system with a brand new set of Q acoustics concept 30. I'm using a Sony ubp x800 with digital coax to a topping E30 DAC and Topping pa3s amp.

The only downside that bug me is that I can't use Spotify on the BP , hope to find some help here 😆

Welcome, mainly an analog guy, but dable with Roon, Tidal and Qobuz. There's some wiz's here I'm sure can help.

Welcome to HFH.

Do you have the original UBP-x800, or the Mk. 2 version?

I believe only the original x800 had the Spotify app in N. America, but I'm not sure if that was the case in other regions such as the U.K. There were also various troubles over the years with Sony firmware updates wiping some apps from the menu, and in some cases the only way to get them restored was to do a factory reset which is annoying and a little nerve wracking too if the unit is now out of warranty, however that should resolve it assuming Spotify is still offered by Sony in your region.

The x800 Mk.2 did not have the Spotify app nor can it be installed to the best of my knowledge, but you could add it to your repertoire using something as inexpensive as the Chromecast with Google TV, however that would have to flow through a TV, or an HDMI audio extractor, and possibly be limited to Toslink output to the E30 in that scenario depending on the exact setup in use.

Thank you, I have the original x800. I've got a ps5 with toslink where I can use Spotify there but limitations on that connection is not best. I own the ubp few months only and it's lovely with an external hd for flac and dsd but I didn't realise a real premium account was necessary for Spotify 😂 I'm just curious if a workaround is possible.

I see, so your unit does have the app, but it can't be used without a Spotify Premium account?
