Wardsweb builds the Pass Labs Korg B1 preamp

Steven was over this weekend and like the B1 pre, so I thought I would show a few pics.

For reference, here is the factory kit.

For those of you who know me or follow some of my builds, you know I can't do stock. Here is the board build. I didn't go with the stock parts list, but sourced a lot of it from Jeff at Sonic Craft here in Texas.

I sourced the chassis from AliExpress out of China. I liked the mini Pass Labs look.

The Korg is pretty damn impressive, but unfortunately is also microphonic as hell. I've got a Millett hybrid amp (NuClassD) I use for the kitchen speakers, and I had to do a lot of isolation work when building it to prevent it from ringing like a bell. FWIW, I've been considering this for my NuClassD amp:

Nutube vibration mount

It would require unsoldering and resoldering the 6P1, but if you run into microphony issues, could be an option, as that preamp looks really slick.

I did use some foam under the Korg. I have no issues using it with my Gilmor Raptors. I have heard it is hit or miss for a lot of people. I guess I got lucky.

@Thermionics some thing I have used in the past for vibration damping is 3M 2552 damping foil. It might work by covering the entire glass top. Just a thought. Where are you located. I could mail you a piece.

It's always a pleasure to share the hobby with other like minded people. I hope you will be able to make it over for the get together in July. Still working on what day.

Same here. But yes, it does seem to be hit or miss.

Great looking build, by the way. Makes my standard white bread Korg B1 look a little uninspired. Still sounds awfully good, though.

I'd love to see what you'd do with an ACP+.

I love SonicCraft, and being in Texas is even better. Glad to hear of others supporting them.

A very nice build, love the tiny 'pass-esque' chassis.
