Boy I’m really liking these Valencias I’ve had sitting around

A couple years ago I asked here for advice about Valencias for sale locally. I got them home and used them as my daily drivers. I think it was beginning of covid and i was on a jazz kick.I replaced the cross overs with Werners and added a super tweeter. I used an 46 tube, 2A3 and 45. I also tried a pass XA30 thinking they were under powered. I liked them a lot. But eventually switched back to my 100% modified Belle and thought how it was a better all around speaker. Last week
I pulled them out from the cat’s room to take some pictures and places an ad to sell them. I have been listening the past week and really fallen in love with them. I’m using a 45 tube on the 16 ohm tap, ( if that make a difference) . I have my subwoofer swarm turned up more than i did in the past. I also built some stands. And wow. I cant stop listening to them. Maybe the rest of my system, the turntable, the stands, the placement is just perfect? Maybe the super tweeter is time aligned and volume matched just right? I don’t know but now I can’t sell them, or don’t want to sell. IMG_1690.jpeg

I like the stands. I have A7-MR994s and personally find that the 42" tweeter coil height makes them sound more airy and realistic. I even raise other speakers to the same tweeter height when I'm comparing them. If you can find some 802s to swap in for the 806s that might help too.

Enjoy!!

Very nice setup, how high are your stands?

I can concur with the feeling. I put an SEOS lens on the CD and placed it on top of the cabinet, with about 11in of height to prop them up. And it sounded great! I then dove into the looney bin and built something bigger, but I will never get rid of the Valencias I have, because they will either migrate to our living room or into a second house if we ever buy one. They really are great!

I may have someone re-veneer mine in the future.

Completely get it!
I recently bought a set of Altec Flamenco, all new diaphragms and rebuilt the woofers through Great Plains Audio. Built my own crossovers, and I have never heard a better sounding set of speakers. So coherent and just sound beautiful.
