Meadowlark Audio Petrel :)

Hope all is well everyone, happy new year.

If anyone needs a NOS replacement tweeter for their Petrel, Willys Hifi in the UK has plenty of tweeters availible for order. Fast shipping and great communication. The tweeter is a Vifa/Peerless D26NC-56-06

Pat, Hope you are doing great. Any owners manual/specs on the Petrel? I do notice thinner wire used inside for the crossover (comparing to my other Meadowlarks that I will never let go) any reason for the thinner wire? should I upgrade?

Also scored two NOS Vifa M13SG09 woofers for my Petrel on ebay. The speaker is still in great shape with no issues.. I like to have replacement parts on hand whenever the time comes.

Keep on Listenin' 😎 (Enjoying my near new Kestrels while posting)

Wiring? At that time we were wiring Kestrel / Petrel / Vireo with Kimber 4PR, configured out-of-the-box as an eight stranded wire braided bundle. Good stuff, if a pita to terminate, and the filters worked well with the character of that particular wire.

Because the filter was located in the center, the runs were really short, so there wasn't much sense in running the entire braid. As you know, net R is a function of both net gauge and run length. I doubt if upping the internal wire would be a profitable avenue for improving performance.

(Yeah, a while back Tympany bought both Peerless and Vifa, and killed a whole bunch of heavily used OEM drivers. Not good. It's remarkable that those drivers are still available. A similar tweeter that appears to be built on the same funny-shaped faceplate is made under the Peerless brand. The good guys at Scan Speak have begun making the woofer used in Kestrel, and in a whole lotta other speakers of that era, the Vifa P17. )

I appreciate your response Pat. Always a pleasure speaking with you!

Which scanspeak woofers are a direct replacement for my Kestrels? I purchased a few NOS Vifa P17 woofers to have on hand, I do love scanspeak, I used to own your Shearwaters and have heard Herons a few times. Purely amazing

By any chance, do you have owners manual and spec sheet for the Petrel? Can’t find anything on google and the meadowlark archives. Thank you!
