They're here!
So fast! I guess the logistics companies (I won't disclose which one) don't have much to do this time of year.

I've put them under the tree for Christmas tomorrow. :)

My thanks and appreciation go out to the generous donor and to Erik & hifihaven!
Merry Christmas (or other winter holiday of your choice) to you all!
So, hopefully Santa gets you a flatbed scanner so you can do the needful with all those Listeners... 😜

With respect to the proposed scanning of all the Listener issues:
1. I would guess there are rights issues. To whom should inquiry be made? Art’s wife? Or would it be all the articles’ authors? Perhaps Art’ former colleagues from Listener, Herb Reichert, or others from Stereophile might be of assistance in making contact.
2. A repository of sacrificial extra issues could be created for scanning. For example, I have an incomplete Listener set that, iirc, has some duplicates I could volunteer. Perhaps others have duplicates as well to donate.
Thoughts? Is this practical or am I just not awake after holiday festivities?
Happy holidays to all Havenites!

You are correct.
I do know that there are/have been folks looking into making Listener content available again, but I am in no position to speak with any authority on those efforts.

I read through one not-entirely-randomly chosen issue last night before bed. It was a trip back in time, in some respects, to the tubes and horns hobby as I remember it when I was trying to figure out how to get a pair of then-new-to-me Klipsch Cornwalls not to sound so aggressive -- and discovered the audio presence on the internet. I was gobblin' down the wit and wisdom of the late Dr. Gizmo and the lamentable (?!) Ron Welborne, and learning about people like the late Don Garber, Dan "Doc Bottlhead" Schmalle, and weird little companies like 47 Labs (which, of course, wasn't of the tubes and horns kind but which embrace(d) the minimalism of the DHT/SET crowd).
That's what got me back into this furshlugginer hobby, ca. 1996-7, after a long hiatus.

PS The best way to tame a pair of "heritage" Klipsch loudspeakers -- sell 'em to someone who wants that sound.

I’ve not read most of them so am pretty happy with seeing your summary on one. Looking forward to the next! :)

I’m not bidding on the magazines BUT I’ll make a matching donation of the winning bid of up to $150. To be more concise, I’ll make a separate donation, matching the winning auction bid of up to $150; I am not bidding on The Listener magazines. (Also, I will be making the donation on January 1, not this month.)

Done and dusted. Happy New Year!

Wish I would have kept all my old TAS magazines and done something like this. I had a whole tote full of everything through the Pearson years starting from volume 1. I sold them dirt cheap years ago. About 100 issues IIRC.

Same! Was just thinking this about the boxes of TAS and Stereophile magazines I threw out when I moved in 2021. This would have been a great thing to do with them...if the timing had been right.

I remember looking at the stacks of them waiting to be boxed up, then considered the space and weight I'd be moving 3000 miles across country. I think it was the sad MQA shilling I saw happening with these 2 magazines that pushed me over the edge; I just wanted them gone, so off to the dumpster they went.

My daughter saw the stacks of them in the delete pile at the time and said she really liked some of the covers, and asked if she could keep them. Here's what she has on her wall in the new place. :)

Great artwork on those covers, I could see why she would want to display them (good eye!).

I'm up for a live Zoom meeting.. I think it would be a great time. Up here in Maine I have 1 deer, 1 moose and a one eared racoon for audio pals. They are great fun but make a heck of a mess in the house and don't really get the music.

That's the funny thing about Maine.
It's the next state over (to the east) from here -- but to get to some parts of the state, ya gotta pack a lunch.
And -- other parts of the state, well, as the old saying goes:
ya cahnt get theah from heah
There's like this non-Euclidian thing goin' on.

yeah. There's an old joke where a guy pulls up next to an Ole Mainah at a traffic light and asks, "does this road go to Gray", The old Mainah looks at him and says, "nope it stays right here", and drives off... heeheeh
