Kind of a shot in the dark here for a local sale (Southeast Michigan, though NE Ohio or Chicago might be possible?)

A pair of excellent condition, all-black, Quad ESL-63PROs, serviced apx 10 years ago by Electrostatic Solutions (by previous owner, sadly I don't think I have the paperwork for this but they could probably look up the serial #). Electronics completely restored, panels all new.

The 63pro was the professional monitor version of the Quad 63 made for Philips to do location monitoring of classical music recordings, then offered as a model to others. They have a beefed up protection circuit so as to handle more power, they have stiffer frames, they have side handles for carrying...these changes were eventually put in the consumer model to become the Quad 63 USA Monitor.

These are in great condition. No weird noises, no arcing. They can handle pretty much whatever amp you put in front of them within reason (I had a 400wpc on them for a while, with careful management of volume control...no problems. They didn't clamp down. Their ideal amp here was a 30wpc Class-A Pass Aleph 30...so no, you don't need a lot of power for them. Just the right voltage source. The Pass Aleph 30 was a near-perfect match.

They are not as picky nor as fragile as 57s.

Placeholder old photo of one of mine. They still look the same:

$2000 (edit) The Electrostatic Solutions restoration service on 63s is currently $2000, I was told most or all of the full service was done but I have not checked. They sound as-new to my ears, I have never had a single issue.

There's nothing wrong with them, they sound amazing. One of the better speaker you will ever hear if you don't listen to as long as you don't listen to Dubstep. And even then, just add a fast subwoofer....these will take care of everything from about 60hz on up by my ears, very similar presentation and frequency range as Harbeth SHL-5s. They have more bass than their detractors say they do.

John - I thought these were your favorite speakers.

I'm in shock. 😲

Oh, I do love them and with infinite space and funds I'd keep them. I did some comparison over the weekend and honesty, it was a tossup between them and the SHL-5s. Which is not an insult to either speaker. The ESLs did some things better, the SHL-5s did other things better. On the balance they are so similar that the ones that look better in the living room (and work better in its small-ish space) won.

They don't need a huge room but I have a particularly small living room.

If they don't sell, they don't sell and I'll be totally ok with that.

Um, rethinking...$2000 HAVEN ONLY price. That's a pair of excellent condition Quad 63 pros for the price of the restore alone. But remember local sale only. I do have ONE of the big foam lined shipping boxes from Electrostatic Solutions. Electrostatic Solutions still sells them I believe, if you want another....but I have no way to get said crate to the Fed Ex.

I showed my wife a photo of stacked quads, she was drooling like the rest us... sadly not in our immediate budget.

John, If my basement had not flooded a week ago, I would figure out hew to get the second shipping crate and how to have them picked up.

Until I get the basement rebuilt, I am out of the "getting more big speakers" game.

If you still have them in a month or so, we can discuss then.

Sorry to hear about your basement! I hope it wasn't anything like my basement (its where the US government keeps its strategic audio gear reserves).

Thank you, John.

Luckily, no audio gear was harmed in the filming of this movie. ;)

300 - 350 records that were destined for donation got wet.

Biggest loss was in wood shelving units, carpet/pad, drywall. Will have to replace all of that.

As a result, we will be removing all of the evergreen bushes on the side of the house where the sewer line exits, replacing the sewer line and installing a backflow valve.

While we are at it, we will put in new water lines coming to our house and a new water cutoff valve. Probably just have them redo the sprinkler system while we are at it.

Good thing I bought the Altec 604C BEFORE the flood. ;)

For anybody curious what THAT looked like (they were huge when put together!).

I ended up just using them as stands to get the 63s up higher. I did not like the intrusion of the Gradient crossover on the sound, or how the subs themselves sounded in the bass region.

And if you are looking for amps to drive the Quads, I can hook you up with a pair of Fisher 30A monoblocks. :)

Bump.

Whatever you're listening to these are better. You need these!

Would love to listed to them, but can't (or at least shouldn't) buy. I can bring distilled beverage to share, and no Diana Krall, but also no chequebook. Sorry.

I, like you, would have to re-imagine my "living situation" for them to be of any use here. Alas.

We'll have to get together sometime, Quads or no Quads. I'm about to come out of my winter's hibernation phase. The Quads aren't currently hooked up but are not that hard to get going. Maybe the ART-9 will be here? Assuming I actually buy it....

Well I said I didn't really want to ship, but I do have one of the boxes so it's not absolutely impossible. I don't think the box would fit in my car to take it to the fedex (used to have a wagon, now a sedan) but it might.
