the heck with this!

The lamp is burnin' low upon my table top
The snow is softly falling
The air is still in the silence of my room
I hear your voice softly calling

If I could only have you near
To breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
On this winter night with you

The smoke is rising in the shadows overhead
My glass is almost empty
I read again between the lines upon the page
The words of love you sent me

If I could know within my heart
That you were lonely too
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
On this winter night with you

The fire is dying now, my lamp is growing dim
The shades of night are lifting
The morning light steals across my window pane
Where webs of snow are drifting

If I could only have you near
To breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
And to be once again with with you
To be once again with you

A friend from work who retired 3 years ago at 58 years old, leaves the frozen north for Florida after the holidays and likes to send me photos of himself enjoying the area's sunny climes. This morning he sent me a couple of photos looking for sympathy. I tried, but I couldn't find any.

Heres a reason to love the chill,...

Tomorrow marks day one of Weed Fest 2022. It is a months long festival that will wrap up around july or so.
Or should I call it Weeding Fest 2022?

My weapon of choice, a scufflin' hoe, and eventually a good old fashioned two-stroke weed whip.
The hoe, it runs horizontally below the soil, about an 1" down. Devastating. And a good arms and back workout.

A hoe's a boys best friend.

It's the kind of night that's so cold, when you spit
It freezes before it hits the ground
And when a bum asks for a quarter, you give a dollar
If he's out tonight, he must be truly down
And I'm searching all the windows for a last-minute present
To prove to you what I said was real
For something small and frail and plastic baby
Cause' cheap is how I feel

-32? Nah, this song fits better.

February in Michigan; or "Why does everybody have a scowl on their face."

  • 48 hours ago - a balmy 50 degrees
  • 24 hours ago - nonstop cold pouring rain for an entire day (with localized flooding)
  • 18 hours ago - freezing rain and a blanket of ice
  • 12 hours ago - snowing and 6” of new snow
  • Currently - gale warning for later tonight and 12 degrees.

45F heavy rain followed by hard freeze followed by a foot overnite. So the mud layer is one good crunch below an ice layer, below heavy snow. I'm debating whether it's even worth attempting to move it, or just give up, pull up the drawbridge and hide?
