Today's Hard-To-Classify Playlist

Really not hard to classify as simply put, Tortoise has spent nearly 25 years making music that defies description. While the Chicago-based instrumental quintet has nodded to dub, rock, jazz, electronica and minimalism throughout its revered and influential six-album discography, the resulting sounds have always been distinctly, even stubbornly, their own.

Probably have heard, but not familiar with the name. Sounds like something I would be into. Roon pull them up, but releases are not pulling up anything. A couple EP/Singles and some various artist compilations.

I don't think that they are on any of the streaming platforms.

Speaking of Post-Rock..

Sigur Rós ~ Ágætis Byrjun – A Good Beginning

Seems appropriate for New Year's Eve and it has one of my favorite song names, track 8."Olsen Olsen"

Inventionis Mater ~ Zapping

Inventionis Mater was born as a project with the encounter between the clarinet player Pierpaolo Romani and the guitarist Andrea Pennati in 2011.

Stiletto ~ Michael Shrieve

I really like their take on Gil Evan's Las Vegas Tango

Terje Gewelt ~ Bass
Mark Isham ~ Trumpet
Michael Shrieve ~ Percussion
Andy Summers ~ Guitar
David Torn ~ Guitar

With Jeff Lynne (?) and Don Was both listed as Producers.

I guess I now need to tell my wife that there actually is one Jeff Lynne-produced record that I like.
