DC's listening room/system

It's the most important thing to me, so it'll be pretty early.

We went to see the Redford Symphony do some Christmas song in a church the other day and I was pondering of the definition of timbre.

Really nice system Don, meticulously assembled as you found gear that you love. All great stuff sir! Well done.

I just realized I crapped all over DC's thread. I'll try and clean up my mess. Sorry DC!

Quick update from Casa DC, room hasn’t changed much, though the system has evolved a little since mid-2017:

speakers: Harbeth C7ES3 30th Anniversary Edition in limited Eucalyptus finish
amp: Pass Labs XA-30.5
preamp: McIntosh C220
CD/SACD: Sony SCD-XA5400ES w/ModWright "Ultimate Truth" mod.
turntable: VPI Scout w/Nagaoka MP-500 cartridge
tuner(s): McIntosh MR74 & MR78 "duking it out" at this time (one will stay and one will go)
computer: Mac Mini with iTunes; no DAC (this is just an experiment in having extra parts)

The wallet needs to cool off, so this is a self-imposed (and partially spouse-imposed, haha) plateau for a while.

Sorry for the crappy pic, this room doesn't photograph well.

Great lookinng room, good use of the space.
We have about the same size rooms, but mine has 10' ceiling.
Room treatment is key to getting things right, good job.
I would love to pop in and listen )

That's a system I'd love to hear. What a delightfully comfortable looking room. You are a lucky man!

Thanks, I try to stay “aware” of how fortunate I am, lest I start to take it (or anything else) for granted.

Yeah, this ceiling ain’t anywhere near 10’! Though the slope helps the room “work” well. The treatments are a bit overdone so the room is definitely on the dry side.

You're welcome any time! :)

I really like your room, lots of character and very inviting. (dig the pitched roof, windows and coziness of it all)

Quarantine update!

So, the photo above (post #29) is still almost 100% representative of the room and current system... 15 months later! The only changes that have taken place are a few cable upgrades, proper stands under the Harbeths, and the introduction of an inexpensive DAC from the computer, which was just an experiment at the time (the computer), but seems to have become absorbed in to the system; Room and Tidal subscriptions followed, thanks to the strong-armed influence of @Olson_jr . Other than that, no significant system purchases in over a year.

I've been thinking about that a bit. Is it satisfaction? Or complacency? Or the beginning of (gasp!) disinterest?

I've been balancing trying to work from home (Governor's "stay at home" orders) with a few much-needed house projects, but also some extra listening time. And I have to say, I've never been more "satisfied" with my system and the music coming out of it.

Not much point to this, just an acknowledgement that I guess I've reached a plateau, and am totally OK with it, and I hope that if you've read this far, that you are also enjoying your music and your system at least as much!

Happy Listening! (And wash your damn hands)

In the last week or so I have found that I am content with washing my hands, closing my eyes, leaning back, listening and immensely enjoying what I have.

I hope you are washing your hands before AND after your listening session!
