Amazon Music HD

I used Amazon Music HD for a little under a year....absolutely hated the desktop interface. Switched to Qobuz for I believe $12.99 a month ago and do not miss Amazon. I don't know how they make it with their trash interface and lack of widespread acceptance to other devices.

Love viewing the album art and lyrics with AMHD. Using a Fire Stick 4K into an HDMI digital audio extractor feeding a DAC. Sounds as good this way as through my Node 2i.
Would you please explain this so that The Luddites here can grasp it? It appears that the TV is used like a tablet. How do you control it?

4K Fire Stick connected to HDMI audio extractor and audio extractor's HDMI output feeds small TV/video monitor while it's digital audio output feeds a free standing DAC connected to one's amps. System is controlled by Fire Stick's remote and monitor.

I use the Cables Matter HDMI audio extractor.

HDMI has a digital signal that can be extracted so that you don't need an HDMI input on your DAC (a rarity, though I had an NAD M51 that had an HDMI input and pass-through). I an HDMI audio extractor with an Apple TV to strip audio off the signal, passing the video to my projector and digital to my DAC. The only output on the Apple TV is HDMI, hence the need for a workaround if you use something more involved than just plugging it into a TV or AV receiver. The same applies to the Firestick as it just plugs into an HDMI port.

Hmmm... I assume the same for a Roku? My wife just got my daughter a Roku and some kind of Bluetooth projector for Xmas.

I think the Roku Express streaming hub is similar, with just the HDMI output, but I could be wrong. It would depend on how you want to use it and what you're plugging it into. Most of those devides are plugged right into TVs or AV receivers with HDMI inputs but HDMI audio extractors aren't expensive if you need one. I think they get a bit more expensive if you need to pass 4k? I haven't looked at them in over 2 years.

My 4K Fire Stick/ HDMI audio extractor will stream hi res from AMHD while my Roku Ultra/HDMI audio extractor won't.

The DAC in my post above displays 192 kHz and the TV screen shows 24 bit/192 kHz content.

I don't know if all HDMI audio extractors work as I only use the one from Cables Matter. It's not shown as it's out of sight behind the DAC.

The HDMI audio extractor requires an HDMI cable to the tv and an optical cable to a DAC. The Fire Stick HDMI plugs directly into the HDMI audio extractor.

Just took a look at the Micro-projector my wife bought for our daughter and looks like I'll be able to do the same thing. I figure at some point I will buy my daughter some powered speakers that include an optical S/PDIF input (the projector has an obviously low-fi, 1-watt amp and speaker). So Roku HDMI out to audio extractor HDMI in, audio extractor's HDMI output to the micro-projector HDMI in, and the audio extractor's optical S/PDIF output to an optical S/PDIF input of some inexpensive powered speakers.

I'm also streaming AMHD via a Echo Input to an SMSL DA-9 on the porch. The DA-9 amp powers Axiom outdoor speakers and the sub pictured here. The Echo Input is the same as an Echo link but lacks the internal speaker. It feeds the DA-9 from it's 3.5 mm output and although it won't stream the highest res it's SQ to my ears is comparable to CD.

Have been using Amazon Music Unlimited for a month or so now. Had been using Deezer for a few years but wanted to try the Hi Rez stuff and Amazon is only $8 with a prime subscription. I don't know if it is because I am in Canada but I am finding a lot of incomplete albums. Mostly in compilation albums but also often open an album to find a single track or just a few tracks. Wondering if anyone else is finding this. Will probably go back to Deezer but really my only complaint about Amazon is incomplete albums. Any one else noticing this or is it a Canada thing, or even user error on my part.

I do not use Amazon Music (Tidal & Qobuz user) but I frequently notice missing tracks on compilation albums, especially movie soundtracks.

Another strange thing I have noticed, I can build a playlist, and occasionally a tune becomes unavailable. But if I search on that tune it will be available on other albums, just unavailable on the record I originally picked it from.

Sorry to jump in so late, but when I play Amazon Music on my computer I don't get any of the info in the bottom left corner of the screen. Am I missing something? Is the difference that it's through the Fire Stick in this photo?
Thanks!

Is your computer Windows, or macOS?

The Fire Stick is Android-based, so yes it looks different, but that doesn't mean you can't get this information on a computer. It's just hiding in the GUI someplace, but it can be revealed.

Right now I'm using a Windows laptop, but I also tried it on my Mac and got the same result. I got a Firestick recently so I looked at that, and found that there's an option on the bottom to display audio quality, which is the info I saw on the screenshot. But it doesn't seem to be available either on the mac or Windows interface! I'll bet you're right, that it's hiding somewhere, but where!?!?

When playing a track, click the little yellow Ultra HD box on the lower left-hand side of the UI, or if it doesn't say Ultra HD there that means you've selected an album either at "regular" HD, or even "standard" CD quality. Whichever the case, click that box and it gives you the details:

It should yield an information box like this:

The above is macOS, the built-in sound card is the output device. It might look a bit different on Windows.

Thanks! That did it! 24/192 into my desk system's Khadas Toneboard - it has no display so I've always wondered!
Thanks again!
