AXPONA 2022 - April 22-24

I think I need another year to feel comfortable but truthfully a knee replacement surgery in March will give me no choice. I'll definitely be ready to kick a** next year like I used to. To the manufacturers I wish them the very best! Just a bit of advice...play some real music not just the insipid female vocal and bland audiophile tripe. I walk right out of these rooms because the music is often not full range frequency wise so it is not only boring but uninformative. I double DARE them to play some Zeppelin and make it sound good! (LOL)

About a decade ago (has it been that long?), I was at the AKFest here in Novi on the last day and one of the boutique vendors had these bookshelfs on stands in one of the bigger rooms/halls and he was CRANKING some Led Zeppelin. It might have been "Rock n Roll", I don't recall. It was sweet. I wish I could recall what those speakers were. Maybe some of the others here were there too and remember it.

EDIT: Odyssey room back in 2012. The speakers may have been the Kismets, IDK, it WAS a decade ago. Odyssey is on the exhibitor list for Axpona, so it looks like a visit, perhaps next year, might be interesting.

The last time I heard any rock music at a HiFi show was the MBL room where they weren't afraid to play music people brought or Rock and it was ELP...sounded incredible! They have nothing to fear like some manufacturers because the quality of their products is so high.

Don't mean to sound like a Luddite and I have 10,000+ LPs and 4000+ CD/SACDs in every genre but if there is not a range of frequencies in the music played it tells me very little. The funny thing about hi end is that despite $ some is just sonically stunning and other products are either limited in target audience/genre or just overpriced and mediocre.

I almost bought an amp from a former Citation II restorer who is rather well known..not McShane. When he told me he only used acoustic instruments to evaluate his gear I ran in the other direction. I listen to everything and if I'm going to spend thousands on gear it needs to be versatile, hence my comment. JMTC..YMMV

I got a nice phone call yesterday from Deann at AXPONA reminding me that I still had a rolled-over ticket and the 2022 show is really happening, with over 150 listening/vendor rooms, and so forth. After some domestic consultation (encouragement, actually) I booked a room and flights last night.

Looking forward to it already, and having been hi-fi-less since last June, it will be a welcome re-boot for me.

Make sure to drop by and introduce yourself! I got news they shut down the 12th floor so now I’m in a different location - 670.

I’m beginning to get excited about this show. All of my products are in and will be well broken in. For the first time, I should actually have a handful of guys to help me with setup.

The speakers I bring will be a huge hit. I’m calling my shot and saying this room will be one of the stand out rooms of the entire show.

Things look too be settling down, so maybe I will drive out for a day or two. My daughter just bought a house/condo, so it would be a nice excuse to see her new digs too.

I'll be there. I've gone most of the last few years the show was on. Looking at new speakers, possibly ... really want to hear some Harbeths.

I truly do hope anyone who comes will take the time to drop by and introduce themselves. My name retention is abysmal but I'm good at remembering faces... not that it helps on an online forum....

I'll certainly stop by if we end up being in Chicago. Might be there for about a month.

Looks like I’m out as my daughter is traveling for business and we are watching her dog here.
Maybe next year…

@AudioThesis are you going to have any Harbeth's set up in your room? I'm very keen to listen to some, as I've never heard them before and would like to know what all the hype is about. I'll be there on Saturday.

I’ll definitely seek out your room and say hi! I’ll be the younger-middle-aged white guy with glasses, you know, so you can recognize me. 😆

@Olson_jr Note: The CH Audio room (with all the windows along the left of the room) was a little smaller this year with the system “moved up” a little, put a lot of palm plants along the long left window boundary which helped (in my opinion) some of the glass “glare” and reflections - the diffusion helped solve some of the problems you noted in the past.

Thanks for posting such great pics @DC . Curious as to what stood out? Also wondering how those large klipsch speakers sounded, along with the harbeth/luxman room? Interesting looking cube-ish speakers too.
