Got Smoke ?

That's a cool site, I will have to bookmark this. Even our town is listed, and it looks quite nice out right now. Particulates though...

In our news today, there's two more small places that have been given evacuation notices due to fires - Edson AB (West of Edmonton), and Tumbler Ridge BC (west of Grande Prairie AB). All this and it's only June 10th.

It's cloudy and cool today, though I can't cool the house off yet since it still stinks outside. The interesting thing on the fire & smoke map is that it shows satellite detected fires - an orange icon with a yellow dot in the middle. They may not be completely accurate, as a disclaimer they say that a large fire might show up as several dots. Too many fires anyway.

Yeah, that wind shift last night really did it - very nice last night but this morning with winds out of the north? Nasty. Easy on the outdoor activities today and using the AC is probably best.

Think we are going to have to get used to this.

We've had a handful of hazy days from fires west of us in years past, and if the prevailing winds blow from the northwest, we could end up getting more haze from the fires in Alberta.

It does appear the fires in Quebec may have eased off, if the map is any indication. We're also now in the 70s for AQI PM2.5, and a light rain has started, so that might help clear things up.

I'm thinking this morning that the smoke has let up somewhat. OK, it has...but only in a small pocket that includes our area. It has stretched as far east as Iceland.

We've got some rain in the forecast for the next week, which is great news. Not only for the fires, but crops in Southern Alberta are in peril already. Our weather is supposed to flip tomorrow, we'll see if it actually happens.

We had rain Sunday (nearly half an inch), some sprinkles yesterday, and it's raining lightly today. We hadn't had rain since around 3:00am on May 20th, so about 21-22 days of dry weather. It makes me wonder what kind of summer we're going to have going forward as it's only been in the 60s for highs so far this week.

Quite a temperature change there. Yeah the rain Sunday was much needed here. I’m actually sitting in my office with a hoodie on. I shouldn’t be cold in June!

My weather station keeps sending me notifications about lightning nearby. So I guess we'll have some storms roll through.

Here I thought things were subsiding but the smoke has only gotten worse here. I don't think I've seen it as high as 133. Unfortunately I have a lot to do for the road trip, so I've been outdoors most of the afternoon and will be out there tomorrow as well. We'll be headed southeast, so we'll be mostly beyond the poor air quality unless it moves further south.

We did get some rain in the last week, including some of the areas that are burning - we got about 1.5" which is a start. Not enough to make a big difference. We got good & stinky after that though. Really variable.
