Haven Get Together - Now The 18th - With Details - And Pictures!

Has he seen the River Rouge lately? 😁

The Lower Rouge is actually much cleaner than it was 50 years ago, but still. 🤣

My wife and I bought kayaks during the pandemic, we love going to Proud Lake, Crooked Lake, South Lake, northern sections of the Huron River, up north, etc.

Some friends keep asking us when we are going to do the Rouge Kayak Trail. My reply, "That would be never."

I should talk--when I lived in your neck of the woods, our neighbors across the street backed up to the Lower Rouge (right off the east side of Canton Center Rd.), where it is a protected wetlands. It also explained the frogs that lived under our deck, and the garter snake that visited the deck one day. Oh, and the ducks that spent half an hour poking into corners of our soaked (at the time) backyard looking for a place to nest.

Well, I think it's pretty cool that a Detroit dude like Don Was is going home to TMR to press some Detroit Jazz LPs

Now I want to hear the first Was (Not Was) album...out come the freaks!

My father used to take a drink or two when I was young
It was then hallucinations always dangled from his tongue
The sky's ablaze with ladies' legs he used to say
They're kicking from the clouds
Shoes fall thru the morning haze & splat like eggs amongst the crowds
Can you see them, son' my father asked

Don Was is a pretty interesting guy. We heard him speak at a WTVS Public TV thing. Actually, it was a screening of Louder Than Love: The Grande Ballroom Story. Ann DeLisi interviewed/chatted with Don about the movie, his success as a producer, working with The Stones, the downfall of the record industry, etc. I could have listened for hours.

BTW, @Rudy Do you think AI wrote this and nobody caught it?

...says Blue Note Records President Don Was. “Spin your turntables, close your eyes, and listen as the sweet analog sounds of Detroit Jazz roll thru your mind like the cool, clear waters of the River Rouge.”

@Olson_jr Or he had some of the good weed that day... 😁

That sentence is somewhat awkwardly worded, now that you mention it.

I have used AI to write some goofy poems about friends, using facts & stories only a few of us know about. They come out reading like that.

Say what you will about Don Was but I once saw that he and I were on the same wavelength.

We were at the Detroit Jazz Fest seeing Hudson (John Medeski, Jack DeJonette, John Scofield & Larry Grenadier) playing their set. Anyways, my wife pointed out Don Was and some attractive babe sitting in front of us. Don seemed to be really enjoying the funky tunes. Then John Medeski starts some 'very out" soloing and everyone else on stage quits playing. Don looked at his watch, pointed at it, and then got up and left with his lady friend, exactly what I felt like doing.

So, Funky Jazz, yes. Medeski's out or bounds noodling, time to go.
