Help for corney earworm, permanently stuck on repeat.

Spent some time in the Toronto Airport the other day and they were playing what my wife called, “music for everyone.” Mainly old pop, commercial rap, soft rock, modern dance, etc.

Anyways, since then I have had some strange mash-up that keeps playing in my head. It is a combination of the Electric Light Orchestras Showdown and the Eagles tune One of These Nights.

It is seriously driving me insane as I am not a fan of either of these groups or these songs.

It is like…

Looks like we're ridin' on the same plane
Looks as though there'll be more pain
There's gonna be a Showdown
And it's rainin' all over the world
It's raining all over the world
Tonight, the longest night

One of these nights, one of these crazy old nights
We're gonna find out, pretty mama, what turns on your lights
The full moon is calling, the fever is high
And the wicked wind whispers and moans
You got your demons, you got your desires
Well, I got a few of my own

Repeated endlessly.

I have tried listening to both of these songs (they are much better sounding in my head) listening to other music etc.

How do I make it stop?

Well...
There is always the nuclear option*

______________
* This is the psychoacoustic analog of using explosives to put out oil well fires.

I find that a glass or three of wine and music that I like better than the earworm helps out. The wine slows the misfiring brain, the better music comes in and takes over. Been there.

Rather have the original earworm thank you.

And that is exactly what it took.

Sarge has music files in her head. Seriously.
She'll open them on occasion, and, just play them silently within. She occasionally gets stuck; ear worm, endless loops. To get her out of it, I got her to mentally sing, and sometimes out loud, the verses of Leroy Brown. You know,... Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, the baddest man in the whole dang town....

I don't know why, but it ends the stuck loop, and she can continue on with life.

I have had really annoying experiences with ear worms too. But eventually they just fade away thank goodness.
Sometimes music I like clangs through my head but I don't usually mind that.
