I'm boycotting Spotify! Forever!

There is no debate on this point. You are simply wrong :)

Blue is not my favorite, not even in my top 5, and I have all the Joni Mitchell LPs.
Try 'Hissing of Summer Lawns' or "Mingus'
I mean her voice is terrible, she’s not a looker, she hails from the overrated Laurel Canyon rich hippie vibe, and the production is suspect. But beyond that she’s an amazing artist 🤓

I’m joking! I know some people find something there that I don’t. That’s the beauty of art. It’s a mixture of your background and the artists intent. It works together and I missed whatever part of that equation works.

I tried to like Blue, I really did. But I am way more of a Jazz Joni guy...Shadows and Light is on another level entirely. Brecker, Jaco, Metheney...genius.

Hey Zen, no worries man. One of the biggest issues this entire Pandemic has exposed or facilitated is the idea that we as a society can't have open dialogue, agree to disagree, and then have an adult beverage while we listen to our latest albums together. It's fucking ridiculous. I truly believe social media is 90% of the problem with this combined with what should be legitimate journalistic sources confusing their efforts with "needing clicks".

In terms of Covid, the oddest thing about the entire thing has been the complete lack of open discussion and curiosity. An example: The fact that the possibility it came from a lab was completely shut down early on was just remarkable to me, especially by the press. There was once a day they would have been all over that and forced the truth. And just because it might have come from a lab doesn't mean there was intent, but if it did, wouldn't we all want to know it will never happen again? Or how about if it's actually a man made strain? Hello, no curiosity?

Governments and "authorities" around the world have done an absolutely dismal job throughout pandemic. Could they have been any worse at trying to communicate things? What properly run organization with a fight like this on their hands would still have leading the charge against it someone as polarizing as Fauci? Just remarkable.

In terms of Rogan and Young, I am mostly disappointed in Young because what he is doing is actually hurting a lot of artists that are trying to make it as even a small percentage of folks decide to stop listening to Spotify. He's selfish and weak. And for the opinion's voiced that Spotify is only doing this out of greed for profit, i say good for them. Folks are reacting like Rogan is telling everyone to go slit their wrists or something. That ain't on Joe. Sorta like some media trying to blame Trump for a couple idiots drinking bleach. In terms of Rogan's show, how is his selection of topics and such any different than The View, or Oprah etc? At least he has people on there that are actually qualified to speak and let's them while also not holding back on questions that many of us have been wanting someone to ask. What should shock you is how the major network news continues with the same slant and personalities even thought their numbers are dwindling fast. They are for profit entities the last time I checked and don't they owe it to their shareholders to do better? Kinda weird.

It’s social media but also the algorithms that feed us what is similar to what we already looked at, making a feedback loop that sends everybody deeper down whatever rabbit hole they’ve already decided is their thing. So we’re all living in different realities making judgment calls on a completely different box of information. And all of it, especially on the extremes, is manipulating our anger and anxiety to keep us coming back.

I believe that N. Young & J. Mitchell both have a "right" to do what they want with their music (I know it isn't really their music). As J. Rogan does with his podcast. How else can the artists express their likes or dislikes? As entertainers, all sides try to leverage their respective positions. That is what being famous is all about.

So true. I found myself getting angrier the more I read on hot-topic subjects. So I have blocked or unfriended people on social media that feel it's their job to constantly enlighten me. And I consistently submit preferences on the Google news feed on my phone ("not interested", "don't show content from...") so now when I look at it my news feed is dominated by stories on audio, TV shows, movies and various scientific subjects.

So some people are defending Spotify, who bought exclusive rights to the Joe Rogan Experience for over $100 million, and dismissing artists who have contributed so much to music over the past 50 years yet get paid a pittance to have their music streamed on the same platform?

Got it.

That news filtering is a really handy feature. IIRC you can also select "more like this" so it becomes more relevant. No more Kardashians in my feed!

I don't know if it is a regional thing but I just want to stop the Liberty,Liberty ads for insurance...most of them are absolutely inane and intellectually insulting. What is amazing is how ubiquitous they are for so many years now and how anyone would buy insurance from them after being so completely abused by inundation. Then of course lies the question of how much cheaper their insurance could be if they stopped spending $ that way.

Joking or not, that was a cheap shot, John. I'd expect better from you.
I’m looking for something to explain the appeal. Some people are popular because they’re pretty. She’s not ugly but she’s not the type of beauty where that’s going to explain the appeal. Obviously others find her lovely and like her music. I just don’t get it, nor do I need to. This was all to just lighten the mood.

It’s not artists withholding their music that I disagree with. It’s Young giving them an ultimatum, as if he’s entitled to control what we all listen to. What exactly did Spotify do wrong?

Might want to read the letter from the large number (I didn't count) of physicians and doctors that objected to Spotify's "failure to mitigate" the spread of false information on its platform. In the interest of full disclosure and weighing all the info available and THEN forming an opinion on the issue:

This started it all, not Neil Young

My apologies if this was already posted in this thread.

On one hand, I worry about people taking pharmaceutical advice from the Joe Rogan Experience. On the other hand, I love that Rogan’s promoting DMT.

I knew that Rogan is an early-and-often DMT booster but to my knowledge he hasn’t yet said that it was a possible Covid cure. Perhaps that’s still to come.

DMT is only listed on the WHO website as a possible treatment for a condition I myself suffer from in summer, CICHS, (Chronic Ice Cream Headache Syndrome). DMT seems to ameliorate the condition and reported side effects are few but may include riding around town wearing a Bucky Dent jersey and a lime green ballet tutu and also, apparently, hand painting your neighbor’s car.

i’m glad we stopped talking about the merits of Young and Mitchell.

Perhaps we can now talk about someone we can all agree on disliking: Bjork.
