Oliver Sayes Amplifier Owners Club

Sorry, he told me, but I forgot. I have some stuff that I might have him repair for me, so if I talk to him next time I will ask him. I know he was running them in open baffle and was not completely happy with the bass response in the huge space that he has. I recall he told me he will be moving soon anyhow. This 45 amp that I got from him is really nice, sweet sounding. I am curious how it would test on the bench.

I have a 45 from him too. A Korneff clone. I will have to swap it in tonight and see how it sounds with the latest iteration of my speakers. I've been running a 6a3 DC coupled SET amp for the last 6 months or so.

Does 6A3 sound like 2A3? I never had an amp based on that tube. The amp that I got from him is a very simple two stage all triode amplifier using 5842 driver tube. Very sweet sounding, yet clear and punchy. I heard 45 / 2A3 amps costing 2 times as much that did not sound nearly as good.

Yes, similar to the 2A3. I can also run a 6b4g in that amp as well.

My Sayes is a 45 with a 7193 driver and 80 rectifier.

“The transformers are OS Japanese made, probably OEM Tamura, believe the outputs were pulled from some 60’s pioneer equipment. Rectifier is EZ81 and driver tube is WeCo 407a input sensitivity ~0.8v for ~0.75 watts output (8 ohms)”
