Hey Pat.
If one wanted to run a modern preamp into the Hypex amps, how would that work? Two separate analog feeds into each rca input jack in the back? Tweaking of the software to make it all work?

What would you gain by doing so?

You just run signal from your preamp, straight on in to the analog inputs. Your speakers' input selector is probably set to SPDIF, so you toggle it to analog by RCA or analog by AES/EBU. Or set the inputs to Autodetect.

If you haven't installed the software, find it here as HFD 5.0 Setup.zip

I didn't know it could auto detect. Sweet! Those Hypex guys know what they are doing.

Here, we have two different streamers, one outs SPDIF, the other AES/EBU. The unit, a minidsp SHD Studio, that outs AES/EBU also autodetects between LAN, either digital type input and Toslink from the TV. So whichever source we chose to play - including the TV playing cable/youtube/dvd/blutooth - runs automatically to the speakers. No switching is nice. It's very convenient when friends come over and want to chose the program. ;)

It is also possible to set up a Preset with PEQ that flatters your analog source.
