Today's Jazz Playlist

Tres Hip! Four out of five Eiffels. Love it.

Afrobeat, Sufi music, Indian Ragas and traditional African music.

The four-CD box set is comprised of live performances by Miles' stellar band lineups in 1955, 1958, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1971, 1973, and 1975, in Newport, Rhode Island, New York City, Berlin, and Switzerland.

Just ordered this on vinyl (rare for me to do so).

“The album’s supporting cast is extraordinary, bringing together musicians from JourneyPharoah Sanders on tenor and soprano sax, flute and more, Cecil McBee on bass, and Tulsi Reynolds on tamboura—with bassist Jimmy Garrison, a previous sideman to both Alice and John; Archie Shepp, a collaborator of John’s and, like Sanders, a strongly established saxophonist-bandleader in his own right; dual drummers Ed Blackwell and Clifford Jarvis, the former of whom had joined John on 1960 sessions co-led by Don Cherry; and harmonium player Kumar Kramer.”

I had decided to pass on this album when the Classic Series reissue came out. Recently it went on sale, you know how this goes.....

I've been having good luck with the Classic Series lately, and this mono pressing is excellent. Not so much as a tic.

Not so much as a tic.
No fleas either. 👍

I posted the Classic Vinyl lineup for the rest of the year and only found one I'm interested in. Other than Horace Silver in a couple of weeks (Silver's Serenade), and possibly a Donald Byrd (as he has a few more coming out this year), I'm pretty much tapped out.

I was going to try to win a FleaBay auction for a sealed Horace Silver The Jody Grind but, uh, $75 with two days left to go.

I'm keeping an eye on what Fania/Tico is releasing in the coming months (via Craft Recordings). They've done a few titles by Ray Barretto and Tito Puente, and I'm hoping they start on the Eddie Palmieri catalog soon. Azucar Pa' Ti needs a good reissue (my LP is not in great condition, and the CD reissue has digital reverb added).
