Hi, all, First-time poster and complete newbie to SACD ripping.

Picked up a Sony 5100 at a Goodwill yesterday for $11 -- no remote, but otherwise seems to be in perfect working order, and I have another, newer Sony BD player whose remote works perfectly with the 5100, so all good.

I have a question -- after getting everything set up in the menu according to the drill, I checked the machine info, and the current software is listed as M15.R.0257. I did a fairly extensive search of the forum last night, and couldn't get a hit to tell me whether that version has been updated to the point that it will no longer work for ripping SACDs. I took a couple of stabs with a single SACD last night, and didn't have any success, but I didn't have a significant amount of time to thoroughly research everything, so I'm not sure if it's something I'm not doing correctly, or if my machine has been updated beyond the point of being unusable.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Mikey? Anyone?

Thanks, guys!
Good afternoon and welcome to HFH.

That firmware, and all other known firmware versions are working. We are unaware of any firmware updates (to any compatible player models at all) that block the ability to rip SACD.

Thank you! I'll give it another shot with a different SACD. After following the drill -- where everything seemed to happen as it should up to a point -- I never got a display that showed me the available tracks on the disc. But when I pressed start on the ripper, I immediately got a message that the process was underway, but then always errored out after 30 minutes or so.

What is the error message you're getting? BTW, I seriously doubt if it's the SACD disc. The only time I couldn't rip one was when it was not an actual SACD in the first place.

Audio Fidelity, Yes, Going For The One. To be honest with you, I mainly wanted to confirm that there's not a firmware issue with the player since it otherwise seemed fine. I don't remember the exact message, but it was something like "task not completed" or something like that. Sorry -- big time newbie with this.

Yesterday morning, I had an internet outage at my house, and didn't get back online until very late in the afternoon. It was a Comcast problem, but about 10 pm last night, I noticed that my ethernet connection kept going in-and-out -- after doing a reboot and reset of the router, I wasn't able to resolve the problem totally, so I went to MicroCenter on my way into work this morning and bought a new one. I'll try again later this evening when I get home, I'm hopeful that the router going on the fritz was a contributing factor to my problem.

I'll repost much later this evening if I have any success.

So after getting my new router installed late last night and getting the network back up and running, I checked all the settings again with the 5100 and took another stab. I checked the IP address -- it was still the same as before, and I can ping the 5100 on the network, no problem, and I can also test it without issue. But when I load the SACD disc and the process starts, I don't get any display of the track information, even though the GUI says the process is running. The GUI becomes totally frozen, and I have to open the task manager to stop the process. Oh, FYI, I'm running Intel core i5 Windows 10 64-bit, FWIW.

Please post a screenshot of your GUI settings.

Have you ensured that the player's Quick Start mode is enabled?

Are you certain the AutoScript is a folder, at the root level of the USB flash drive? You need an outer/enclosing folder called AutoScript to house the 3 files on the flash drive.

Once again, I'm at work. I'll take another look at some point over the weekend -- it may be a couple of days before I can get back here with everything in order.

So, it has been a while since I last was in a place long enough to Get my ripping system set up (last time I was able to do this was January, 2020). Are there any new software pieces or steps in the process that I need to be aware of before I start ripping the 25 SACD’s that I need to archive? I have a Pioneer BDP-80FD, not certain that I have the original USB stick anymore so will probably have to start from scratch. My recollection was once I was able to get the first disc to rip, it was a really simple process. Thank you for the reeducation on this process!

Was able to get everything set up again, but when I go to run SACDExtractGUI and test it I get the following error:
[ERROR] /Applications/sacd_extract/sacd_extract doesn't exist or not executable. I have been able to find my Pioneer on my network and confirm that theSACDExtractGUI can see the drive, but I can't get the executable to run. Seem to remember something about this happening before, but hoping someone knows how to fix this so I don't have to go through 139 pages to find the solution (which has probably been posted a dozen or so times already). Thanks in advance!

I'm definitely not the expert here but I feel for your frustration. I put the SACD_Extract folder directly on my C: drive and pointed to it like this. Are you set up similarly?

Are you using Windows or a Mac ? That bit is important, as in some cases the operating system will render the file not executable for security or other reasons.

You don't need to read 139 pages. Pro tip - use the Search function in the top right corner and restrict the search to this thread. I just did that with the keyword "executable" (and also added our resident guru @MikeyFresh as criteria) to get a number of hits. One of these probably has your solution.

If you had a Mac you may need to try this: Rip SACD with a Blu-ray player

I don't personally use this software so can't get too in depth here. Hope this helps.

Thats right, both macOS and Linux require the end user to make sacd_extract executable as a security feature, because it is not commercial software with a signed certificate from a known developer.

That is definitely a pro tip, the Search function here at HFH was improved some months back via a site software upgrade, and it works really well.

The other pro tip that is relevant with any "how to" thread is use of the Bookmark feature, in order to denote any particular posts that might need to be retrieved at a later date, bookmarking them makes that easy. The Bookmarking icon appears in the upper right-hand corner of any given post, directly left of the actual Post #.

Yeah, I wasn't specific with my OS, sorry about that. I use a Mac. Thanks @airdronian, that pointer helped as as soon as I followed those directions, everything worked. Now on to ripping my newest collection of SACDs! This is still the slickest utility, thanks for your help and for maintaining this forum.

Excellent. Glad it worked for you.

Sooooooo...multiple issues, have been gone for days, the week from hell...I'm at my day job, where things are very slow, and I have access to a really robust internet connection and network -- so I loaded everything up and decided to take a stab here rather than at home, where I had been suspecting that my lowish network speed was interfering with my ability to rip anything. Anyway...drum roll...SUCCESS!!

I read through everything several times again, reloaded everything and restarted, and badaboom -- it's working!

Thanks, Mikey and everyone else, I couldn't be happier! Unless I win the lottery, of course!!

Hello all, I am new here. Mac user with an Oppo 103. I am completely new to ripping my SACD's (but not ripping, I am happy doing DVDs/Blurays as well as DVD-A), and would appreciate a few pointers! :)

Good evening and welcome to HFH.

Using macOS and an Oppo 103 to rip SACD is no sweat.

First setup a USB flash drive with the Oppo-Cambridge version of AutoScript found on Page 2 of this thread. You need the entire folder called AutoScript just as that post describes. The flash drive is then used in the USB port of the 103.

Have you done any of the software download and setup on your Mac?

Many thanks for your reply, Mikey. No I have not had time to do the USB flash drive set up but I will do it in the next day or so and get back to the thread.

Kind regards,
Ben

I was thinking, the only flash drive I can lay my hands on at the moment is a paltry 16Gb. Is this sufficient?

Anyway, I have followed your instructions and added the folder of Oppo-Cambridge version of AutoScript to my drive.

The 16GB flash drive is perfectly sufficient, the AutoScript folder is actually tiny, you could even use an old 1GB flash drive and that would still be plenty of capacity.

I even have an ancient 512mb drive that was a trade show handout/giveaway, that too works just fine and is far more capacity than is needed for this task.

So now on to the Mac software setup. Which version of macOS are you using?

First thing is to install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) unless you already have it on your Mac.

Once the JRE is installed, then download SACDExtractGUI, you don't need the source code, just the zip file. Download and unzip it. I place this folder in my Applications folder after unzipping.

Finally, download sacd_extract-0.3.9.3-99-macOS, scroll to the very bottom of that page to reveal the Assets. Unzip and place it in your SACDExtractGUI folder.

Thats it for the software install, let us know when completed and we'll do the final settings necessary to get up and ripping.
