DIY “Nigel’s” power controller, from Lencoheaven—Anyone built one

Do It Yourself
The terminal blocks are a great idea, very clean looking👍 May have to copy your lead ;)
I did that so I could place the inlet and outlet on the side towards the TT. The Par Metal chassis has a cover that comes down over the sides.

The diodes arrived today, really appreciate it 👍👍👍

I’ll get busy this weekend on it, not a lot left to do as far as the Electronics go, but haven’t picked out the woodwork yet, and it really needs a small table to sit on….but then the area needs another table on the other side to balance things out :chin

Looking good. Interesting build! I love those knobs. Are there LEDs somewhere to denote speed chosen?

Thanks…..I’m just not sure about the need for the LED‘s , can tell it’s on by the voltage meter and the speed selection is kinda obvious in my use.

OHH Andy, you MUST have LEDS
20 or 30 of them, each one should be about 5000 lumens. Then you can wear welding goggles in the listening room.

Yes, Yes, Im cheeky :chin

I LOVE NO LEDS.

The little middle shelf in between TT and inverter looks like curly maple. ONE thing we dont have here.
BEAUTIFUL piece of timber!!!. ( is it the motor board ? )

Nice! Is your component table sagging? Or is that just the picture? Pic 3
Thanks, oh yes there is a sag, and the sag is there when empty…It’s an antique wallpaper table actually very sturdy. The table has metal supports underneath, so someone put something extremely heavy on it at some point in the past?

Thanks Joe,

The only place I’d like an LED is to light the voltage gauge slightly, the black walnut front was a discard from another project that just happened to be long enough, thinking about embedding one at the bottom of the guage, but it needs a shield or blinder….

Yes Curley Maple, but it’s actually part of my “Gothic“ turntable plinth, the outer frame or surround :smile:45F316DC-0E93-4B0F-9565-37322565E66A.jpeg85547E6D-6C1C-456F-B062-680E4773DAC6.jpeg

WOW !!!! Its a REAL turntable too!!!. I love it. I have a 401, no where NEAR a 301.

Erhmm, maybe a suggestion if one MUST have bling, Neon pilot lamps ?? I think we already discussed this.
Leds are Grate for digital screetching noises, that have about 1/3 the frequency response of a decent cartridge and LP.
( YES !!! Seedies are limited to 18 Khz ON PURPOSE, because they wouldnt be 50 minutes long otherwise )

Leds are like the " Fins " on a 1950 Chev, NO purpose whatsoever.
I Think Andy and I could have a fine discussion over equipment.

With respect, EVEN with my sense of humour Wntrmute2.
LEDS are like Bose, GROSS.

Appreciate the kind words and the suggestion, actually have a neon pilot light, it might be too large :chin

The 301 is an Ivory rimless grease bearing, given how rare it is, thought it deserved a “special plinth….came to me from @old_borg Big idler fan with several different tables in and around the house;)

The 401 is at least it’s SQ equal, some even say better, but my appreciation of the 301‘s 50s design esthetics drove my selection … have always considered certain tables ”works of art” in and of themselves.

They are Andy!!! Even with the big clonky switches that let you "KNOW " its in gear. A capacitive touch switch ??? WTF 😨 Er yep I reset the operating systern ( hee hee hee ) and had the septic tank pumped, it STILL wont change speed.

I loves my manual gearboxes.
