The tube set in the CJ PV-12 pooped out tonight and I seem to have a pile of 12AT7s and not a single AU7 in the house, let alone a pair. Anyone have a nice NOS something pair in that line they'd care part with?

I've got a pair of 12au7a Webcor branded, I believe I also have a pair of Webcor branded 12au7 as well.

What's the difference between the 12AU7 and the 12AU7a? I forget (if I ever knew). Any idea roughly how many hours they might have on them?

I don't know the difference off the top of my head.

Both pairs were pulled from very mint vintage Webcor r2r units. Both of the units worked as I recall. I've not used the tubes.

What do you consider "nice"?
I can send you a coupla clear-tops if'n you want. Organ pulls, they are what they are -- but the price is right (i.e., free). :p
You are someplace in the US of A, yes? I... umm... forget.

Anyway, send me a PM if'n you'd like a pair & I'll go disinter some.

I'm on the south side of the border - in Canada.... how it works in this neck o' th' woods.

I would happily give you your choice, from my caddy, but, alas, I have none left.

Where have all the triodes gone?
Gone for guitar amps, every one.

Sorry. Timing is everything.

@mhardy6647, I believe that fiddlefye has a US mailing address. Otherwise, I think shipping, directly to our fair city, from yours, is about $10USD, for an 8-ounce package, something about 4x5x6.

Hmmmm
I have a few kicking around.
Let's me see.

I know there are a pair of very low hour Mullards CV4003s. These guys:

I seem to recall something about some Mullards hanging out around your place... Mullards work really well in the PV-12. My all-time faves in this pre were these:

Thin on the ground an pricey these days.

I'd love some. "Nice" is "sounds nice" in these parts. I'd eventually like to have a little collection of types to try in it. Until now it has mostly been one set, those die, get another etc. The only tubes I tried that really absolutely did not work were JAN Phillips. Ditto the same in in 12AX7 in my phono pre. Not really the best way to go about things!

I will probably have to start hunting down some similar-quality 12AX7s before long as well. The set in my phono pre were installed about the same time as those in the PV-12, but don't have quite as many hours on them.

Currently subbed some 12AT7s out of my stash in so I didn't have to take the whole system apart and change the pre-amp. They sound pretty good, though the output is considerably "hotter" than I'd like. 12AU7 has a gain of about 19, 12AT7 of 60....

I've been getting things sent to John in Ferndale lately as my usual location went south.

well, the offer stands -- y'all keep me posted.
Of course, I'll deny everything if captured and tortured by the Federales.

Likewise, let me know if you want to try the RCAs. John call always send back the extras with the 5751s. ;)
Yes, 5751s.... life happened and I managed to get completely baffled on that topic.....

I'm wondering if you sent a few pair to me Ernie mightn't like some to replenish his stash as well?

Those Brimar CV4003 are supposed to be without equal for the CJs, aren't they?
They are, at least by me. Not that easy to get these days and not cheap. I lucked into a couple of sets from that famous stash, but they're done....
