Which automatic script does the Sony s 590 use to rip SACD? Have you tried it here?
Is your friend still having problems with the network server method?

It is not a good idea to just quickly give up on that and assume AutoRip is the only answer, AutoRip has some limitations that the network server method does not. Getting the network server method sorted out first is really the right thing to do, and then setup a separate flash drive with the AutoRip script.

That said, the AutoRip version compatible with the S590 is A1neo. There is an instruction document included with that download, but care needs to be taken in not mixing up the AutoRip script with the script for the network server method.

They are all named AutoScript, and you can't change that folder name to differentiate it, it only works if called AutoScript. Usually the best way to keep them straight is to create subfolders to store them on the computer, and then use 2 separate USB flash drives, one for each method, and mark them clearly so you don't get confused as to which one is which.

Again, the best practice is to get the network server method fully working, there is no reason why it won't work if the instructions are carefully followed, and AutoRip is a piece of cake thereafter.

My friend is the computer has some problems, temporarily can only try with automatic script, thank you for your reply! Tomorrow I let him try a1neo!

Mikey,
I have gotten a start with my sacd ripping. I have a Sony S5100 and Windows 10 laptop.

I have made 2 successful rips using AutoRip. These are of Budapest Festival Orchestra Mahler symphonies. I thought I had a flash drive with LED but the LED did not flash. However the display did flash "OFF" during the rip and the disc ejected upon completion. I have checked the files and the whole ISO is there, 2ch, Multich, plus 3 different TOC's of the same size. So that much is good.
At the moment don't know how to get the 2ch content to proper folder or which TOC to use. But at l now have these files off the disc. So I am somewhat competent at this.

However I have not had any success with the server method. The 5100 is set up good, and as I had success with Auto Rip, that confirms.
The 5100 does not seem to have a WLAN card as during setup it asked for one to be plugged in to the USB port. So I bought a long cable and have a long cable run from the router. So I did a wired connection to the router and noted the IP address and wrote it down. I did this two different times and address the same both times, so it is good.
The AutoScript is good. I made certain the flash drive folder was exactly as shown in so many posts. And it seems to work properly in the player, as the player operates as it is described to do in the instructions.
In the GUI screen I pass the PING and Test okay, or so the printout says below, along with access to PORT 2002. But when I hit RUN, I get the common FAIL error message. I checked a few posts with this same message and had to disable Windows Defender. I then rebooted the player and tried again. But I have the same result, so am stumped for the moment and time to write this post.
I am not sure that I have the SACDExtractGUI folder correct, so I take screenshot and post below. First ever screenshot too.
I have the latest Java, Java 8 Update 333, installed.

Hi Steve,

Well congrats on getting up and running with AutoRip, we can circle back to those ISOs you created and easily make 2-CH stereo folders and extract DSF files from the ISOs, using the File setting in the GUI.

But first regarding the network server method (and congrats there too on the first ever screenshot), I think everything looks perfectly in order with the SACDExtractGUI folder.

If you can also post a screenshot of the GUI's settings, we can confirm those too, and I'll take your word for it you have the AutoScript folder correct, especially since the player is behaving as expected on insertion of the flash drive.

So let's take a quick look at the GUI's settings and go from there, then we'll also detail what to do with those ISOs you produced with AutoRip.

Mike

Okay, I am back now..................

Below are 3 screenshots that are probably self explanatory.
The third one is the GUI box, and I just tried another server rip, and got the same results. I rechecked the settings on the S5100, as well as the network connections. I cannot show a screenshot because that's on the tv screen in another room. However the network settings showed:
Software M15.R.0257
Device ID: B0:00:01:D7:C3:D2
Link Status: Connected
IP Address: 10.0.0.126
Provisioning Server: Succeeded
Default Getaway 10.0.0.138
Primary DNS 10.0.0.138
Secondary DNS 0.0.0.0

The last line in the GUI box is the one that has stumped me as it reads that sacd_extract.exe does not exist or not executable.

OK Steve, that should be an easy fix.

In the GUI's Program field, erase what is pre-populated there, then use the Browse button to set the correct path to the sacd_extract.exe file in your GUI folder.

You should then be in business with the network rips.

After you get that going, we can circle back on what to do with those ISOs you created using AutoRip.

All Good now. I just completed the Mahler 5 rip, which took about 15 minutes. I would send a screenshot but the box is too small and the printout is long. But once I corrected the box at the top of the GUI the program started right away.
WOW, this is just unbelievable to me. On May 1 I had no idea of any of this. I thought sacd ripping was PS3 or and Oppo 105 thing. And now on June 1 I have done it. Ya, 1 down 1500 to go. I guess I need to start searching out some storage options!!!!
Thanks for all your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now what do I do with the ISO's I made the past couple of days. I think it is in the thread somewhere as I made a lot of notes. But if you can refer me back to a Post# or just give me a couple quick tips.

Regards,
Steve

Good deal, you've got a winter ripping job ahead of you now!

One last note on the network method, you will get 6-7 consecutive rips before the routine is refused, we think perhaps due to a memory leak the executable. After 6-7 consecutive, you'll get the Port failure to connect error, just power cycle the S5100 (with flash drive removed) and afterward you'll get another 6-7 consecutive in before the same thing happens again. Rinse and repeat.

With regard to those ISOs you've created, you can extract DSF files (stereo or MCH, or both) using the GUI's File mode.

Simply tick the radio button in the Input field to File, then use that field's Browse button to find your ISO on the AutoRip flash drive, and extract DSF to whatever Output directory you like. You can revise/alter the embedded metadata (which is often authored in very sloppy fashion), and add album art cover images to the DSF tracks using a program such as Kid3.

Lastly, if you have the original download package using the early links in this thread, you'll want to discard the sacd_extract.exe file that came with that download, and replace it in the GUI folder with EuFlo's enhanced version.

Just scroll to the bottom of that GitHub page to reveal the Assets, download the -107 version for Windows, and place that file right into the GUI folder where the old version used to be.

Is this the same as in Post #2919, Pg. 146?

Well, I must be missing something, like basic knowledge on this, as I cannot select anything to the file box.
The screenshot is what is on the flash drive that the AutoRip gave me.
The popup box tells me to select an ISO file. Well what do I select?
If I select 2C_AUDIO the RUN button tells me this does not exist.
What am I missing here?

That's not a USB flash drive you have mounted there, it is a DVD-ROM (optical disc) drive. With AutoRip, the USB flash drive itself that you inserted into the Blu-ray player will have the ISO written to it after you've completed an AutoRip. Is the drive you meant to select the D: drive? It's not the E: drive you've screenshot, thats an optical disc drive.

That same USB flash drive used in the Blu-ray player for AutoRip is then brought back to your computer, and you use SACDExtractGUI it its File mode as described to extract DSF from the ISO.

The lower screenshot is the whole flash drive.
If I select the Budapest Festival Orchestra, it shows up as an F: Drive, the second screenshot.
Did something not quite right happen with the AutoRip?
Like everything?

The ISO is that Budapest Festival Orchestra Mahler file. Don't worry about what stupid Windows is describing it as, Disc Image File is just another way to describe it, but that is the ISO. Close the Windows Explorer, you don't need it at all.

Open SACDExtractGUI in its File mode, and using the Browse button in the Input field, find that D: drive, navigate to select the ISO, and don't worry about what that all looks like in the Windows Explorer that you screenshot.

All Good now. It's happening on the GUI as I write.
All done in just a few minutes.
Thank you so very much.
The first go around is always the trickiest!

My pleasure, and just so you can better understand what you were seeing in the Windows Explorer, the ISO you created with AutoRip is actually a full disc copy, bit for bit, in the same format.

Windows doesn't know any better and sees it as an optical disc, as far as Windows is concerned that ISO isn't any different from the SACD itself.

Windows then assumed you'd want to play it using the F: DVD-ROM optical drive, which wouldn't work of course, but the point is Windows sees that ISO as an optical disc, because it is a copy of one.

Hi Mikey,
Thanks for this post: got myself a sony Blueray/SACD player SONY BDP_S7200 - everything is working super. Installed the latest ripp version due to long filenames.

Now I can play my FLAC converted DSD files in stereo. On my iPod touch 7 in hi resolution: converted to 24/88.2 lossless.

I can also extract DSD multichannel and convert this to FLAC multichannel. But how to play this?

I have an onkyo TX-SR805 with nic burr brown DAC's capable of decoding multichannel flac (even DSD it says in the manual but I guess that's analog.... haven't tried). But how to get the multichannel flacs to play on my stereo. One way would be to to through the HDMI (will try) or convert the DSD to i2S - mayby via the USB port.

Is there an easy way: a file server or soemthing where I can store all my DSD and FLAC files and play them.

PS I am mostly interesed in the MULTI CHANNEL DSD and FLAC files because that's why I have the SACD (large collection: 3 channel 5.0 5.1 etc special SACD mixes / experimental surround disks etc. So not interested in the STEREO downmixes (nice bonus but I can find a lot in TIDAL etc, but not the mult channels......

greetings from Holland
Stefan

Addendum: tried playing FLAC 24.88.2 multichannel ripps via USB on the sony and they play in glorious FLAC surround via my Onkyo...

So now I can keep on ripping to multichannel (and Stereo for my mobile use) and put them all together on a USB drive and play them the way I want (without the SACD hassle).

The SACD plays directly via the Onlyo as well - connected via the HDMI cable (stereo_ and then it wil display 178.6 kHz or something - I guess that is the DSD direct play - I will try to play the ripped DSD files via USB as well and see if this works and or if there is any audible sound difference.

Happy DSD ripping!!
Stefan

Greetings Stefan, and welcome to HFH!

I'm glad you found everything you needed to get up and running with the S7200, thats a nice machine and should provide a vey good platform for ripping SACD.

Good deal, I'm not surprised the Onkyo can play the MCH FLAC files, however almost nothing will play MCH DSD, so conversion to FLAC remains the way to go there.

The SACD sounds like it is playing over HDMI at 176.4 kHz PCM, so likely transcoding on-the-fly and I'm sure that sounds fine, however there might be a setting which would allow straight playback of stereo DSD with no conversion.

We have a separate thread for playback discussions in order to keep this one very focused on the rips themselves, please feel free to post in DSD playback options if you have additional questions or comments about how to best handle the playback side of things with your AVR.

Please also feel free to look around and post in any other threads of interest, or start your own thread if there is a topic not covered here.

Cheers,
Mike
