Hi everyone, first post just to thank people for this great thread. This, and some others elsewhere on the web, helped me get going on ripping my SACDs. I purchased a Sony BDP-S490 for very little money on eBay and after some trials and tribulations it works a treat. The 490 doesn't seem to get mentioned much so I thought I'd add some thoughts here for anyone else giving it a try...

Firmware - I've seen conflicting comment on updating the firmware, especially elsewhere on the web suggesting later firmwares will remove the SACD rip capability. The 490 I purchased was on M12.R.0320 when it arrived and it would not run the autoscript (ie the door would not open). After firmware update to M12.R.0520 (the latest one available I presume) the autoscript ran perfectly.

AutoScript version - it seems there are different versions and there is a specific Sony version - look for sacd_extract_160 as one of the file names to ensure you have the right one for Sony players

Sleep - this one fooled me for a while. Once the tray opens, and the disc inserted, turn the machine off (via the remote) to put it into sleep mode. Simply closing the tray leaves the machine in a state which ISO2DSD cannot work with. The quick start mode setting may be relavent here - I left this set to On

Anyway, thanks again. It's great to now add my SACDs as DSF files to my digital connection. I'm presently using Audirvana and they sound great. :)

Hi

My Sony 4100 gave up the ghost at the weekend. Within a few days, I am back up and running with a £40 Sony S6200 off ebay. A little tricky at first, but an hour or so reading the relevant parts of this thread and I'm ripping again.

Many thanks to Mike.

All the best, John

I also purchased a Sony S6200 from eBay, it arrived today.
I had a bit of trouble with the auto script but the third USB stick worked a treat, draw opens as expected.
Also had the issue on my Mac where the unix executable was appearing as a text file, but the chmod +x in terminal fixed that issue.
Now I'm stuck though.
SACDExtractGUI Program "Test" button works, so the executable is running fine.
The Server Ping to the Sony works OK
The Server Test returns: [SUCCESS] Port 2002 of 192.168.2.117 is accessible.
I have the output directory set to /Users/mick/Desktop/SACD which is a folder that exists
When I click "Run" I get: [RUNNING] [sacd_extract, -i 192.168.2.117:2002, -s, -z, -2, -o, /Users/mick/Desktop/SACD]
Then instantly I get:
[DONE]
no files are written, no disk activity on the player.
I've tried several times after unplugging the player to reset, and tried 2 different SACD's
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running OS X 10.15.2 Catalina, wired LAN for both Sony & Mac.

Good evening,

Please confirm you have set-up the S6200 for sleep mode by means of enabling Quick Start in the settings menu, and you begin by inserting the USB flash drive into an already sleeping (OFF) S6200. Assuming you have done that, within 10 seconds of the disc tray opening are you also then seeing the disc tray auto-close, and watch the display flash OFF (auto-sleep), after which you then Run the rip?

Can you post a screen shot of the SACDExtractGUI?

Good evening and welcome to HFH. Yes the S490 is a perfectly suitable ripping platform, it's the U.K. version of the S590 and differs from it only in lacking WiFi, other than that those two units seem to be identical. Also sold in certain other territories such as Oceania.

Firmware - I've seen conflicting comment on updating the firmware, especially elsewhere on the web suggesting later firmwares will remove the SACD rip capability. Yes there is to date no real worry about a firmware update breaking compatibility, all known firmwares work though some machines with very early (original) firmware seem not to work until an update is done. I hate all of the insistence on other fora warning not to update the firmware, those folks are conflating a totally separate feature that was in fact killed via firmware update, namely the ability to play an SACD-R, which is essentially a DVD-R blank disc that was burned with DSD data. SACD-R playback was indeed killed via firmware update, but it has absolutely nothing to do with ripping SACD.

AutoScript version - it seems there are different versions and there is a specific Sony version - look for sacd_extract_160 as one of the file names to ensure you have the right one for Sony players

Or more specifically, the Pioneer-Sony script. That _160 actually refers to the Pioneer BDP-160, which was the first player discovered to work with that script. Most of the Sony models were then found to be compatible with that script version about one full year later with the advent of the sleep-server method, but it was really a Pioneer script originally. The ARMv7 chipset equipped Sonys (S790 and S6200/7200 only) do use a different and unique to Sony script.
Anyway, thanks again. It's great to now add my SACDs as DSF files to my digital connection. I'm presently using Audirvana and they sound great. :)
Our pleasure, glad you got it up and running. Give SACDExtractGUI a try, it is both faster and a bit more capable than ISO2DSD, really the state-of-the-art tool since fall 2018.

Sorry to hear the S4100 bit the dust, however good deal on the S6200, back in business then!

My pleasure, glad you found the relevant bits on use of the S6200 John!

I see MikeyFresh has already explained what you need to do. Just to say that where I went wrong was trying to replicate what I'd done with my 4100, thinking I could insert the USB stick when the unit was switched on and switch off the unit to be ready to start ripping. This didn't work with the S6200. The drawer opens and closes automatically when the USB is inserted if the player is in standby. It's much easier once you get the hang of it. I used iso2dsd_gui on a PC, but that bit was straightforward once I got the S6200 part right. At the end of each rip you remove the USB stick and reinsert it to open the drawer again.

Hi, I am neewby and just got a Sony BDP-S590. I´ll be brief :)

+ My first trial will be using Mar 24, 2019 #591 Post.
+ I have already download Sonore - ISO2DSD on a imac (Link on May 12, 2018 post #1)
+ I laso have a USB FAT32 with scripts (Link on May 17, 2018 post #193)
With previous set up (Using ISO3DSD) I am being able to back up SACD

Thank you MikeyFresh for your Post #320 sugestion I tried SACDExtractGUI and helped me very much to make test conection but for some reason is not working for back uo, let me work a little on it and I´ll update results.

Update 20200110 14:41

I switch from mac to PC for the back up since I store music on PC and moving a large file from mac to PC using FAT32 formated USB is not possible; and for my configuration takes more steps on the workflow.

Update 20200110 17:49

I am at the 4th back up, no problems so far, 1.32 MB/s speed using Ethernet cable.

? - Maybe I am doing something wrong every time I unload nad load a disk I have to plug the USB. My work flow is after finichung a back up open the tray (remote ocntrol button), try to do a new back up but doesnt work until I reset BDP"-590 again.

I`ll be updating this post as a short list of steps and links

Welcome to HFH!

That Post #591 details use of SACDExtractGUI, so you should download and use that, instead of Sonore ISO2DSD.

You can refer to Post #320 for the one additional step needed to properly set-up SACDExtractGUI for use on a Mac computer.

Other than that, you should be all set to go with the S590 using the steps in that post.

Hello, thanks for the reply.
Firmware version is M21.R.0181 btw.
I can confirm that Quick Start is set to on in the settings menu.
From an unplugged state, connecting the mains, the player boots up, shows WAIT then returns to sleep.
Inserting the USB flash drive into the rear port the drawer auto-opens, I drop the disc in and the draw auto-closes after a few seconds.
I don't see the display flash OFF, but it is blank.
A TV connected via HDMI shows no display output.
I open SACDExtractGUI, click the "Server Test" and get a positive response.
Screenshot shows confirmation of test and detail of running the extract.
I might fire up a spare iMac that runs an older OS and see if the results are the same.

I see the issue Mick, please re-specify the path to sacd_extract in the Program field using the Browse button.

It will rip consecutive discs simply by opening the tray, replace the now ripped disc with an unripped one, and close the tray again using the OFF button. Each time the tray must be closed using OFF, it's the only way to reenter sleep mode.

You can do about 7 discs in a row like that before the machine will refuse and a power cycle is necessary, this we think is due to a memory leak in the executable. Power cycle can be a remove/replace of the AC power cord, or a press/hold of the power button for 10 seconds (only the front panel power button, not the one on the remote control). After the power cycle, reinsert the USB flash drive and repeat the process, you'll get another 7 rips or so before another refusal. Rinse and repeat.

This post intends to be a brief set of steps to back up a disc from my experience and from scratch (using ISO2DSD):

+ Having got a Sony BDP-S590:
+ Set Blue Ray Player (BRP) setting as in Mar 24, 2019 #591 Post.
+ Install Sonore - ISO2DSD on a computer (Link: May 12, 2018 post #1)
+ Prepare a USB memory stick (FAT32 formatted) with scripts (Link: May 17, 2018 post #193)
+ Conect BRP to network (I am using Ethernet) and get IP adress.
+ Input BRP IP adress in ISO2DSD and desired backup settings.
+ Use Mar 24, 2019 #591 Post instructions for first back up simple:
- Insert USB strick;
- Tray opens;
- Place disc on tray;
- Power off BPR with BRP button (do not unplug BPR, just power off)
Thats it.

For continuous backing up:
After finishing a back up:
+ Push eject button in DPR (not in remote control)
+ Change discs
+ Power off BPR with BRP button (do not unplug BPR, just power off)
+ Start back up proces in computer
+ Do it uo to 7 times then unplug BPR and start all over again.

Thats it. thansk to all.

Hi MikeyFresh,
thank you from italy for your help,
I succeeded to rip my first SACD on the first attempt
I received a BPD-S6200 from Ebay this morning
The unit comes in very good conditions with the original remote

after setting network wifi and system like previous posts
I power up the unit
insert the sacd
close tray and power down using the buttons on the unit not on the remote
insert the usb thumb in the front socket
the try is opening with the sacd in it
close the drive and power down the unit one more time
wait ten to twenty seconds
remove the usb
run SACDExtractGUI.jar
test ping and port and all are ok
run in ISO +DSF
on wifi:

[RUNNING][./sacd_extract, -i, 192.168.1.42:2002, -w, -I, -s, -2, -P, -o, /Volumes/music/convertiti/Action/iso file, -y, /Volumes/music/convertiti/Action/dsf file]

Concurrent mode enabled.

ISO output: /Volumes/music/convertiti/Action/iso file/Symphonies.iso

DSF output: /Volumes/music/convertiti/Action/dsf file/Symphonies

Completed: 100% (2760.2MB), Total: 100% (2760.2MB) at 2.62MB/secWe are done..

I have tried more times and the rip is ok

Thank very much

Marco

Greetings Marco, I have added Italy to the list of member participant countries!

I'm glad you are up and running with the S6200, however there is an easier workflow available for the S6200 and S7200 (only), due to a smart revision of that specific AutoScript version, contributed by our member friend in Prague last September.

Please see Post #994 for the exact details, using an S6200/7200 is almost completely automatic now from the player standpoint, you simply insert the USB flash drive into an already sleeping (OFF) player.

The disc tray's open and close, as well entry into sleep mode are all automatic now, unlike with all of the other Sony models, which require the pressing of the OFF button in order to close the tray and sleep.

Once one rip is done, remove the disc and press OFF, the S6200 will resume sleep, then reinsert the USB flash drive to repeat the process.

Cheers!

Update

Ethernet conected BlueRay renders transfer rates upto 2.36 Mb/s
Wireless conected BlueRay renders transfer rates upto 0.82 Mb/s

Does anyone knows if USB port on bluerays is only for input or if it can be used for output?
