My pleasure, welcome to HFH.

No that doesn't make any sense, however I'm curious what behavior and/or error message in the GUI lead you to this conclusion.

I'd also ask which disc title is in question, and if you are using Windows, macOS, or Linux? Finally, which version of sacd_extract is in use (the GUI will list that information).

Thanks again for your help Mikey.

The disc I was having issues with is this one:

Tchaikovsky/Khachaturian: Piano Concertos Piano Orchestral & Concertos SACD (chandos.net)

I am using a Windows 10 based Intel system. The version of SACDExtractGUI I am using is the one that is pointed to on post #1. It's sacd_extract version 0.3.9. As I mentioned earlier, I have no problem with other SACDs where I can generate both ISO and DSF.

Below I've cut and past the SACDExtractGUI logs:

First run with following process enabled
- DSF
- Stereo
- Padding-less DSF enabled

- Log results:

[SUCCESS] Port 2002 of 192.168.100.108 is accessible.
[RUNNING][sacd_extract.exe, -i, 192.168.100.108:2002, -s, -z, -2, -o, C:\Users\Old Farmer\Documents\GGGG]

DSF output: C:\Users\Homer\Documents\GGGG\RSNO conducted by Peter Oundjian with Xiayin Wang, piano - Piano Concertos by Tchaikovsky and Khachaturian

Processing (d) [C:\Users\Homer\Documents\GGGG\RSNO conducted by Peter Oundjian with Xiayin Wang, piano - Piano Concertos by Tchaikovsky and Khachaturian\01 - RSNO conducted by Peter Oundjian with Xiayin Wang, piano - Tchaikovsky - Piano Concerto No. 2. I. Allegro brillante -.dsf] (1/9)..

Second run with following processes enabled

Ok that is likely going to be an issue of special characters in the metadata, or possibly an excessive file path length due to too much metadata in the disc authoring.

Either way, this should be solved by updating to the most recent version of the executable.

Please visit EuFlo's GitHub repository, and download the latest version for Windows. Scroll to the very bottom of that page and reveal the Assets, the -99 version is the most current, unzip it and place it in your SACDExtractGUI folder in the same place that the old one was located.

You do need to remove the .exe that is currently in the SACDExtractGUI folder, you can either place it in a temporary folder if you like, or just hold it in the recycle/trash, but you won't need it anymore. You can't leave it as is however, because it has the same exact file name as the new one.

Thanks for the quick response Mikey. You know your stuff - the latest version was able to rip DSF on that disk.

Any suggestion on how to add cover art?

Thanks again!

There are a number of tagging programs that can add album cover art to .dsf files, I prefer Kid3.

Those files are different in that they aren't produced from an SACD rip.

I run out of options with ripping: I`ve tried rip to dsf and iso, I`ve tried different router, different PC, I even tried to switch from ethernet > wifi connection to all wire connection.

I would like to ask anyone who`s using Sony S490: could you tell which firmware you`re running on?

For myself, I have bought a wifi dongle to see if somehow my wired connection is the source of my problems. It seems unlikely, thinking about it, but you never know.

This is awesome! I've now been able to rip every single SACD that previously errored out on me! Thank you!

Hi Baward,

I had a problem where after inserting the USB drive into the blu-ray player and the disk drawer opens as it should and closes after I inserted a disk and powered the blu-ray down, I could not ping or test the connection between the SACDEXtractGUI and the blu-ray. Turns out the blu-ray was on a different sub-net than PC running the gui.

Hope this triggers a solution for you.

Hi Folks,

If you use AutoRip, an important tool is a USB with an LED activity light. The activity light serves as a "heartbeat" and lets you know when ripping is being done. If you don't have one, you are "flying blind" during AutoRip and have to wait for the disc tray to eject to find out i fhe rip was a success.

It was hard for me to find large good quality USB drives with activity LED's, where large is 32-256 GB and good quality is known vendors with performing and reliable products. I spent too much money buying drives only to find out something was missing. So I thought I would pass along a two low cost finds that I own and use in the hope they might be useful to you:

These are not speed daemons, but adequate for AutoRip - Note: these are Amazon links, but I found both drives several other places, Walmart, BestBuy, Newegg, B&H, eBay - prices do vary. And, I get no compensation from anyone for anything in this post.
  • PNY 32GB Turbo Attaché 3 USB 3.0, this a 3 pack and has the activity LED's, there are multiple sizes from 32GB - 1TB. Note: there are some reports that there is not an LED on these. It is present, but faint in bright light. PNY is a relatively new brand to me. I bought those in the link and work fine for me. This has ~28K reviews and a 4.6 rating, so plenty of history.
  • SanDisk 32GB Cruzer USB 2.0 Flash Drive - this is a pretty well known drive, its been around for years - and it is not new to this forum, e.g., this post. It ranges from 16-256 GB. I've own and use several of these have not had an issue with them. This has about 34K reviews and 4.7 rating.
At the time of this post, the PNY was the better value here because of its 3.0 speed and cost/GB.

Good luck and happy ripping -

Nope the Oppo just needs a connection to your home network, either via Ethernet, or via WiFi using the Oppo included USB-WiFi dongle (the 103 has no built-in WiFi). If you use the WiFi dongle, plug it into the player's rear USB port, and reserve the front USB port for the AutoScript flash drive.

Hi Mikey,

I received my USB dongle for the Oppo 103. I have configured it to use the wireless connection, but although Fing can see it (and I can ping to it successfully in SACDExtractGUI,) Fing is still reporting that that port is inaccessible. Do you have any idea why this should still be the case? It seems to be the only barrier left to accessing my SACDs over the network.

baward

Can you try this, I have posted about this fixing my issue where I would ping fine but still wouldn't rip.
Not sure if this is your problem or not but worth a try
open SACDExtractGUI
At the top where it says Program, click Browse and redirect it to the actual location of that sacd_extract executable file

Then try again
Many thanks. I have done that but please excuse me if this is a really dumb question, where can I see my actual disc? (or is in not there, because my player is inaccessible?). Ping still ok but also "[FAILURE] Port 2002 of 192.168.1.102 is inaccessible." when I try to test it.

It's very confusing, if Fing can clearly see it on the network, and I can ping it, why it is apparently inaccessible. Perhaps I should find me an alternative player?

I will answer this question in the next post, in meantime can you please confirm the following:

1) You have enabled the S490's Quick Start mode in the player's Settings. Maybe you skipped this part prior to moving the machine away from a monitor? you do need the remote control to access the Settings menu, and a monitor to actually see it.

2) You are closing the disc tray after loading an SACD by means of pressing the Power OFF button, and not the open/close button, then waiting for the LED display to cease flashing OFF prior to hitting Run in the GUI?

Hi Mikey,
I just wanted to say "thank you" for this awesome thread and for spearheading this effort. I picked up a Sony BDP-S5100 on eBay for $29, followed your instructions to the letter, and within an hour or so, I was successfully ripping my SACD collection. This, without any prior experience trying to rip on PlayStation (way beyond my abilities). Thanks to you, I can now upload my SACD collection to my network drive and listen on Roon with the rest of my library. I am very grateful!
Chris

Actually, I have an Oppo 103. Maybe you were replying to this post with a more recent post in mind? I will look over the person with the S490 (Quadder I believe) and see if I can make any further headway, as I have not given up yet, what with the groups support!

Sorry, I did confuse your post with an S490 user. None of the Quick Start mode applies, nor do you need to close the disc tray with the Off button. My mistake.

However what does apply with the Oppo 103 is that you must turn off the Auto-play and Auto-resume settings, those do interfere with SACD ripping.
