technical notes / edit history for shankar2006-04-28 escondido, ca:
Something malfunctioned during the second set of the concert. The recording has odd spikes in the right channel for the first several seconds of Ravi's set, and in the last several seconds of his set (set two, disc 2.2).
At any rate, I cut and pasted the good channel in place of the bad channel in those last final seconds of the performance, as it was quite scratchy sounding at that point. The issue was left untouched at the start of the set, as it was quite brief, and temporary. So, there is a slightly different sound for the last several seconds of the finale of the show. Not bad, just slightly different, and monaural for those few seconds.
Applause reduced by 2dB, in post. The limiter was engaged during the mastering effort. So, the audience applause was already truncated before the gain attenuation was applied.
Overall, a musical gain of 3db, applied in post.
Ravi Shankar introductions and comments, gain +3dB, in post.
HPF, in post, of 9dB @ 50hz to remove ambient room noise from the ac system, and temporary construction generators outside of venue.
