Topping D30 Failure

Update on the D-10. After a few weeks of listening, I found the D-10 lacking to the D-30 I had. Not sure what it is but, something is just missing in the sound quality. Sending it back and going to try something else.

It might be the CS4398 DAC chip inside the D30 which I also liked before I regressed to multi-bit. Doesn't the D10 use a Sabre ESS chip?

Looks to have the es9018k2m. The opa2134PA is stock but, interchangeable. I might buy another D-30. I liked it better than the Modi I had.

And/or the quality of the USB 5V bus power fed to the D10 as opposed to the D30's use of an external 15 volt power supply.

USB bus power quality varies greatly, mostly it's pretty bad, and addressing that adds cost to the total when using a D10 (or any other USB bus powered DAC).

I think that might have a lot to do with it.

I agree!

I saw Topping offers an LPS called the P50, it has both 5 and 15 volt output, but they don't list the D30 as a compatible model.

I wonder if that's an error of omission, or does the current demand of the D30 exceed what the P50 delivers?

Ordered another D30. Hope the magic comes back. Also found the P50. It's 119.00 in the states. Might be worth looking into.

The P50 is intriguing. I have to admit the reason I went with the D70 over the top S.M.S.L. dac was the D70s not using a wall wart.

I use the CPU connected via USB to my D10 and from D10 to my D30 connected with a good coax cable. I tried the Schitt EITR and could never get it to work as a USB to Coax converter. But the D10 works great for that purpose. FWIW, I like the D30 over both the D10 and D50. I really want to try the D70 at some point to see how much better it is than the D30. JohnVF's review on it has me considering dropping the coin on one.
