Intro and my old system

High everybody!
My name is Rolf and I live in Norway.
After spending some time searching for repair options for my JVC QL-7, I ended up here in Hi-Fi Haven.
I hope to find someone who share my interest in getting this old turntable up and running.
After I started to work in 1978 I upgraded my stereo, I bought this JVC QL-7, Pioneer SA-8500 Mk-II amp and a pair of Pioneer HPM-60 speakers.
In 1998 I bought a Rega Planar 3 from a friend and my Ql-7 ended up on a shelf at my work, when I quit working there in 2000, my QL-7 remained on the shelf. Last year I went back to the same company to look for something else, then I came over my old turntable and decided to take it back home.
Rubber feet had crumbled and the counter weight was sagging, the rubber piece was stone hard and fell apart when I touched it.
I have been able to make a new rubber for the counter weight and I'm planning to make my own feet of aluminum, rubber cushion and coil spring.
So far, so good, but there, but there are some other issues I will need some help with and that is the cartridge and stylus. The one that sits on the head shell at the moment is Shure Hi Track, and that's all the information I have about it, there is no numbers or letters, neither on the stylus nor on the cartridge. If anyone has a suggestion, I'll be very pleased.
I will not spend a fortune on this, but I want it to sound good, play well and have a reasonable price.

That's it for now and I hope I didn't put to much text for an intro.

Regards to all of you!

Welcome to HFH! That QL-7 is a serious direct-drive turntable, and in proper shape, a significant performance upgrade over the Rega (speaking as someone who went from a Rega Planar 3 to a Technics SL10Mk2 DD - albeit with a Nottingham Analogue interstitially).

That SA-8500 ii is no slouch, either. 😉

Hello!

Post a few pictures of the cartridge, and I am sure (Shure :)) we can identify it and give help from there.

@Romicans nice turntable. I had a tt81 for a while. If you end up needing the drive repaired it can be a bit of a journey to find the right tech, but they exist!

Hi Dan, thank's for replying!
Here are the best shots I can make of it!
As you can see from the pictures the needle itself is gone, "Shure Hi Track" is on the front of the stylus.

I have a picture in the back of my head that the QL-7 came with a MD-1025 cartridge and DT-Z1TE stylus, but I can't really remember having changed it.

I hope it helps!

Rolf......

Looks like a M91 body. Perhaps an OEM variant for Kenwood. Would explain the lack of ID's on the body.

I have a M91 at home, I will check it this evening.

Welcome to the Haven Rolf. I visited your beautiful country about 7 years ago. My wife’s cousin married one of your countrymen and lives there now. We stayed with them for about a week.

P.S. I hope you like Brussels sprouts. This place is infested with them.

I'm really looking forward to get my QL-7 up and running again, but I need some more parts before that. I need a new cover over the stroboscope (it's only cosmetic, but nevertheless), and the neon lamp. It seems hard to find these parts. I can easily get a neon lamp, but I don't know which value to look for. I love my SA-8500, some years ago I replaced the four big capacitors and got the whole amp cleaned up by a professional technician, it was worth it and I will keep it forever!

Thank's JoeThePop. Where in Norway do they live? And yes, I do like Brussels sprouts!

Welcome to the haven, @Romicans .
Did you hang onto the pioneer HPM-60’s too? If not, what are you using now?
Thank's! I had a few issues with my HPM-60s, I replaced the bass element on one and the middle tone on the other at some point, but some years later there where quite a few more elements that needed replacement and I gave them up. It's a shame though, cause the really sounded good. But I played them hard, and a lot, they had their hard Rock'n Roll live next to mine. Today I use Dynavoice Magic F6. The funny thing is that I got them very cheap, I don't remember exactly, but something around £75 for the pair. At that time I was an IT technician and a reseller of computers and peripherals, and I thought I bought some high-end desktop speakers for my computer, but when I received them they where about a meter high. And do they sound good? Yes! My ears aren't able to say no, to me they just sound great, I never regretted that purchase.
